Bobby: Not at shelter (Ron)'s Story

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Bobby has made such great progress since he’s been at the shelter! He loves playtime with other dogs, and we can’t lie about this, he is very vocal. He is not a dog that’s going to be suited for an apartment for sure. He will do best with another dog that he can play with appropriately. He has been good with both males and female females, and has shown his house training capabilities in an actual home. (He is not in a home now, but is back at the shelter for visibility!) Bobbi has the most beautiful coat and is remaining on the smallish side. He’s probably only 45 pounds and we don’t think he will get bigger. Are you looking for a fun lively happy boy who is good with all other dogs, and is so food motivated he will do anything for you? This is the boy for you! we have discovered that Bobbi is really attracted to young women. He loves socializing with older teenagers, young college students, and even young adults. He is such a happy boy when he has people who understand him around him.

*****

Long ago..... We reached a turning point today with Bobby. After spending a month tossing him treats, earning his trust, plumping him up, it was time. Today we put a leash around Bobby’s neck and told him it was time to see the world. Did he like it? Initially no, he did not. He gator rolled, he chewed at the leash, he tried to back out, but finally, he resigned himself. He was going to learn to walk on a leash! He was dealing with someone as stubborn as he was. When he got out onto the grass, he looked like a new dog! You would’ve thought I was killing him if you had heard him yowling at the injustice of it all. We repeated the exercise a few times, and within a short time, Bobby accepted stroking, ear scratching, and removal of his leash without snarkiness. A new world awaits him!

We can only imagine what Bobby's beginnings must have been, because he is so incredibly distrustful and unsure of humans! He is learning that yummy treats come his way because of us, but that is all he can vouch for thus far. Whew! He is one challenging boy!

PLEASE NOTE: This pet has been posted by Friends of Campbell County Animal Control, Rustburg, VA.
