Boaz's Story

Leah and Boaz are a sister/brother sibling pair have been together for their whole life (3 ½ years) and would love to stay together, but they can be placed separately if we can’t find a home together for them.

Purchased as puppies from Craigslist, they grew up with a family 4 young children. Now that the kids are older family dynamics have changed, Leah and Boaz are left alone for long days by themselves, with little interaction by the family, especially on weekends, when the family is gone for many hours away from the home. With little time leftover, the family feels that finding a more suitable home for the dogs is best for them.

I haven’t met Leah and Boaz in person yet (they’re in the Buckley area, east of Bonney Lake), but here’s the info I’m told:

They are healthy in general although Boaz seems to have some ongoing allergies of some sort. He gets dry spots on his skin and his ears get itchy, especially between summer and fall. It is managed with food (ProPlan for sensitive stomachs and skin) and allergy chews or benedryl, as well as Zymox for his ears. They are both intact (need to be spayed and neutered) and are not up to date on vaccines due to financial issues.

With their own family they are loving and friendly, but both dogs have had minimal socialization with new people, and are unsure around strangers and can take a while to warm up to new people. They are especially uncomfortable around people wearing sunglasses, beanies or hats. Boaz is more relaxed, warming up and allowing pets/soliciting attention. Like a lot of Rottweilers, Boaz can be head shy/doesn’t like his head petted, although this could also be due to his ears being uncomfortable.

Boaz can be a picky eater and isn’t a typical Rottweiler hoover like his sister. He loves to play fetch, and also loves a good game of chase – either with his sister or with his human siblings. Of the two he’s the one that wants to be with the kids and tries to include himself in the kids’ games if he can. He too loves tummy rubs and likes to be pet. A lot.

Both dogs are house trained and are house pets. They are not outside only dogs. Outside, digging is a fun pastime for both dogs if they get bored. They haven’t been around other dogs much, but of the two, Boaz is friendlier with meeting other dogs.

They know basic obedience – sit, stay, down, wait, here, drop it, come, but neither have been walked on leash much, so need some work on their leash walking skills (pulling). Leah occasionally will jump on people she knows. They have not lived with or met a cat, so it’s unknown if they would be okay with a cat. The neighbors have cows and both dogs like to watch them and sometimes bark at them.

Apply to adopt Leah and/or Boaz: https://forms.spdrdogs.org/Adoption/

Washington State - no interstate transports. Oregon, Idaho, Montana, and B.C. adopters will be considered.
