Blossom's Story

Meet Blossom!

STURDY FENCE REQUIRED
FOSTERED IN GULF BREEZE

STURDY FENCE REQUIRED FOSTERED IN GULF BREEZE

Blossom is an energetic 2-year-old Great Dane female with a goofy personality and snuggly disposition.

Blossom arrived in the rescue after being found as a stray in Alabama, so not much is known about her previous background.

Shortly after being caught, Blossom gave birth to the Squash litter and has been an excellent mom to them. Now that the puppies are moving out of the house, it’s time for her to find a family that she can focus all of her playful and loving energy on.

Blossom has gotten along wonderfully with the other dogs in her foster home. She is being fostered with a fellow great dane, two grumpy old greyhounds, and a 45lb pittie mix. She does wonderful with all of them, although she is a bit boisterous for the old grumpy greyhounds.

Blossom does have a high prey drive for small squeaky fluffy dogs though, presumably a survival (food finding) instinct from her time living off the land in the woods of Alabama. Because of this, Blossom would not be suitable for a home that has small fluffy dogs in it. The up side of this, is that Blossom is WONDERFUL at pest control! Rats, opossums, moles, squirrels in your yard/property? Blossom WILL find them and hunt them out! I think she would also LOVE trying the Barn Hunt dog sport and would quickly rise to being a star!

Blossom loves to play with both her humans and other dog buddies. She loves running around the yard and bouncing up and down looking at the squirrels in the trees. I know she would LOVE to have a sturdy play buddy as she loves rough housing with our other Dane. That being said, she is more than comfortable laying alone or in the office with her foster mom while she is working, as long as she gets some play time later that night.

Blossom is still working on her leash skills and wears a harness in order to better channel her exuberant nature. She walks well in the harness and will constantly lick her foster sister’s face while walking. Small fluffy dogs should be avoided on leash, just give her the space to work through her feelings on the matter (which are that that prey looks quite tasty and fun). I, her average strength/size woman/foster, am able to easily control her and step off the sidewalk path when needed to help her re-focus.

We assume that Blossom is used to being outside because she likes to go out into the yard and lay in the grass when she can. Due to this and coming in as a stray, a fence is required for adoption. She is fully house trained with no dog door or open door to backyard, but also is fully trustable to come in and out as she pleases and to be a good girl.

Medical wise, Blossom is cleared by her vet of any major issues! We have noticed recent itchiness and are working to change up her food to get that to resolved. Will report back once we have a good answer/resolution here.

All that to say, is that Blossom is an extremely loving, snuggly and goofy girl. She will go from making you laugh at her kangaroo bounces, to pulling on your heart strings when she sits on your lap to get snuggles, or makes a donut in your bed to curl up to sleep. I promise you, you will not regret adopting this beautiful girl with her deeply loving eyes.

Blossom is spayed, current on vaccinations and microchipped. Her adoption fee is $400.

To read over the adoption requirements before applying to adopt, please go to www.nwflgdr.com/adopt.

Please note: NWFLGDR does not transport. Approved adopters are required to pick up the dane in person from his/her foster parent.

Our Great Danes require a sturdy fenced in yard, particularly young or active danes. Generally, a six-foot or higher privacy fencing is preferred. In certain circumstances, the Board may waive this requirement depending upon the Dane's personality and temperament. Any such exceptions will solely be at the discretion of the Rescue Board. Under no circumstances will we consider invisible or electric fencing as acceptable. 6. We only adopt Dogs as indoor pets. We will not adopt Dogs to be used as guard dogs or to be kept out-of-doors. 7. A home visit is required for ALL adoptions, without exception. This is not a white-glove inspection, rather it is to ensure that the home is a safe environment for the Great Dane. 8. We do not transport. If you are applying from out of area or out of state, understand that if your application gets approved, you will be expected to pick up the dane in the location that he/she is being fostered.
