Blossom's Story
REQUIREMENTS FOR ADOPTER:
NO APARTMENTS
NO CHILDREN UNDER 10

PLEASE DO NOT REACH OUT UNTIL YOU HAVE SENT IN AN APP. WE MUST HAVE AN APP BEFORE WE CAN GO ANY FURTHER IN THE ADOPTION PROCESS. APPLY HERE: https://www.vols4paws.com/applications

Blossom is 1/3 double merle Aussie siblings that came to us at only 6 weeks old. They were born outside and lived in a barn up until they were surrendered to us. Since arriving in foster care, these 3 have done wonderful (some would say they've blossomed).

Blossom and her siblings are all vision and hearing impaired, a direct result of being double merles. While Blossom has some vision out of both eyes, care must be taken to ensure she is never unsupervised where she could get in harm's way. Blossom has a little bit of hearing, but would benefit most from touch training (a good resource for training double merles can be found here: https://www.kellerscause.com/with-a-deaf-and-blind-dog).

Blossom is a doll. She is very, very friendly. Is in a foster home with 7 dogs and does great with all of them. Blossom and her brothers are all used to sleeping in a kennel and being kenneled when home alone. We encourage potential adopters to continue using a kennel and make that her "safe space", an invaluable tool when owning a dog with disabilities.
Blossom and her brothers have also mastered the art of a dog door. They get a kick out of going in and out of it and love to roll around in the backyard and take all their stuffed toys out to the yard to play with. Since they mastered the dog door, they have had almost 0 accidents inside.

We are looking for a family that is either experienced with disabled dogs or willing to learn all that owning one entails. All 3 of them get around a familiar environment with ease and are very in-tune with their surroundings. Keep in mind, these are still purebred Australian Shepherds. If you are not familiar with the breed, please do research to ensure you are prepared to give Blossom the exercise and stimulation she needs.

Aussies are NOT apartment dogs and none of these 3 will be adopted to anyone living in an apartment. Fenced in yard is HIGHLY preferred, but depending on the circumstances we might be lenient on that requirement. Blossom has not been around children, and has given us no reason to think she would have any issue with them. But given her disabilities, we are looking for a home with mature children over 10 years old. Blossom would thrive in a home with another friendly dog to show her the ropes. She loves to curl up with her foster's other dogs and play in the yard with her siblings.

Blossom is spayed, dewormed, & has had her kennel cough vax, first DHPP vax (will need 2 more over a 4 week period), and is microchipped. Blossom is available for immediate adoption. We require an approved application BEFORE a meet & greet can be arranged. We will also conduct a home check, check references, and require a 1 week trial adoption before finalizing the adoption.

Please keep in mind that double merles may require more vet care than the average Aussie. Please consider if you are willing/can realistically afford a life time of vet care for Blossom before applying.

We are a foster-based rescue with very little volunteers. The first step to be considered is submitting an application. We will review them ASAP and contact you if you seem like you might be a good fit for Blossom or one of her siblings. Please do not panic if you do not get an immediate response. All our volunteers have full time jobs and a house full of fosters, so sometimes it takes a day or two to get back to inquiries. Thank you!

Blizzard & siblings are located in Knoxville, TN but can easily be transported to the Boone, NC area. We have a volunteer in Boone willing to conduct the home checks and be a contact for the trial adoption period.
