Blaze's Story

Meet Blaze — a big, beautiful boy with an even bigger heart.

Blaze is an 88-pound Weimaraner–American Bulldog mix who was surrendered simply for being “too big.” At just over a year old, he’s still very much a youngster, and he’s carrying around a whole lot of love he hasn’t quite figured out how to share yet.

Here at the shelter, Blaze is scared and unsure, and it’s clear the world hasn’t given him much guidance so far. But the moment he feels safe, he leans in with a sweetness that makes you want to wrap your arms around him and tell him everything’s going to be okay. He hasn’t been socialized with other dogs, so he’s hoping for a home where he can be your one and only while he learns about life at a gentler pace.

Blaze may be hefty, but inside he’s just a sensitive soul looking for someone who will see past his size and notice the worried, hopeful pup underneath. With patience, kindness, and a steady routine, this boy is going to shine.

If you’re ready to help a scared but wonderfully loving dog find his confidence—and his person—Blaze will be waiting with soft eyes and a heart full of potential.

*Reminder* We are currently facilitating adoptions through appointment only. If you arrive at the shelter without an appointment to meet a dog, we may not be able to assist you.

Please call the shelter (516-869-6311) during working hours (Mon. to Fri. 9AM-4PM; Sat. 10AM-4PM) for more information about this dog, the adoption process at the shelter, and to confirm availability.
