Blaze's Story

Blaze is an estimated 2-year-old Border Collie whose life is finally beginning to look a little brighter. Before coming to Herding Hearts ResQ, he was one of six Border Collies who were dumped after surviving heartbreaking neglect. While his past may have shaped him, it doesn't define the incredible dog he's capable of becoming.

At first glance, Blaze appears to be the more confident of his siblings. He enjoys exploring his surroundings and is curious about the world around him. But when it comes to people, he keeps his guard up. Trust isn't something he gives away freely—it's something that must be earned through patience, consistency, and kindness.

Blaze is looking for a family that understands that love doesn't always happen overnight. He's the kind of dog who quietly watches before joining in, who takes comfort in predictable routines, and who will need the freedom to build confidence at his own pace. Every small step forward is a huge victory, and those victories are incredibly rewarding to witness.

He's making great progress with his potty training and is learning that life inside a home can be safe and comfortable. He walks nicely on a leash but can still be startled by unfamiliar sights and sounds. Because fear can cause him to bolt, Blaze cannot be trusted off leash or outside of a securely fenced yard at this time.

The right family for Blaze won't be looking for instant affection—they'll be looking for a lifelong companion whose trust is worth earning. They'll understand that healing takes time and that some of the most meaningful relationships are built slowly.

One day, someone is going to look at Blaze and see not the scared dog he once was, but the loyal companion he's always had the potential to become. We know that family is out there.

If you have a calm home, a patient heart, and the willingness to let Blaze write the next chapter of his story at his own pace, you'll discover something truly special. The dogs who ask the most of us often end up giving us the very best of themselves.

Herding Hearts ResQ's Adoption Policy
Each collie available for adoption is up to date on vaccines, altered and treated for any complications they may have arrived with. Each one goes through basic obedience training with our founder and certified trainer Janae Aguirre. A four week (once a week) training class is included with every adoption to address desires and issues that may come up in the new home. This also allows for a greater connection between the collie and their new family helping to ensure a perfect match. At least one in-home visit will be conducted before each collie is placed with an adopter. This ensures long-term safety and health for each collie after leaving our care. Before an adoption is approved we will contact an adopter’s veterinarian to ensure the best care will be given by the adopter. In-home visits may be conducted virtually depending on certain situations. Applications are open to anyone, however we cannot guarantee a match with a collie. We have the right to refuse an adoption for any reason.
