Blanche's Story
Blanche is quickly proving herself to be the playful, curious comedian of the Golden Girls. Although she is still settling in and learning how to trust after a long life of trauma, her personality is beginning to shine brighter every single day.

This girl wants to investigate everything. Blanche is inquisitive, intelligent, and always paying attention to what is happening around her. She is learning that life can be fun and has started discovering the joy of toys, chewing, zooming around the yard, and playful exploration at her own pace. At times it feels like Blanche is younger than her years and making up for never having been able to be a puppy. When given the freedom, she gets zoomies and is oblivious to anything around her, running full speed in to other dogs, people, and even fences.

While Blanche is the most playful of the girls, she is also quite sensitive and can become nervous with sudden changes in her environment, loud noises, or quick movements. Because of this, she would do best in a home without children, or potentially with calm, respectful children aged 12 and older who understand the importance of giving her space and respecting her boundaries.

Although Blanche enjoys toys, she is still very afraid of them being thrown -- even gently -- and is continuing to learn that play can be safe and predictable. She is also making nice progress with leash training, though she still occasionally decides the leash would be much more fun to chew on than actually walk with.

Blanche plays wonderfully with other dogs and would greatly benefit from another confident, playful dog in the home to help continue showing her the ropes. She clearly gains confidence from canine companionship and enjoys having another dog nearby to help her navigate unfamiliar situations.

While Blanche still needs time and patience to fully trust people, once she does, she absolutely melts for affection. Her primary caregiver spent nearly a week visiting with her multiple times a day before Blanche felt comfortable enough to allow petting for the first time. Since then, she has made tremendous progress and now happily engages with familiar faces as she feels comfortable. And once you've earned her trust, Blanche's favorite thing in the world may just be a really good chest scratch -- she will happily lean in for more.

Because Blanche is high energy, loves to run fast, zoom freely, and explore her surroundings, she would do best in a home with a securely fenced yard where she can safely enjoy open space and continue building confidence.

Blanche is also very nervous when being placed into a kennel or confined boarding environment. Because of this, we would strongly encourage her future adopters to avoid traditional boarding situations whenever possible. If Blanche ever needs care while away from her adopters, she would likely do best with in-home pet sitting or another arrangement that allows her to remain in an environment where she feels safe, comfortable, and confident.

At this time, we do not yet have an anticipated go-home date for Blanche as we continue learning more about her needs and helping her adjust to life outside of the mill. However, we hope to soon begin the process of meet-and-treat appointments with prospective adopters as we search for the right fit for her unique personality and needs. Blanche will likely require several visits before she is ready to go home.

For more information on the process, visit hsbcpets.com/beagles

She is a really fun dog with a huge personality that is just waiting to fully bloom. 💛
If you are interested in learning more or would like to set up a Meet & Treat appointment, please fill out an adoption application on our website: www.hsbcpets.com/adopt
