Blanche's Story
Meet Blanche — A Sweet Senior Looking for Her Soft Place to Land

Blanche came to Misfit Manor Rescue & Sanctuary as a dog we believed might spend the rest of her life with us.

When she landed in the shelter, we were told she could potentially be a hospice case. She was an older girl who had clearly gone without the medical care she needed for quite some time, and she arrived with kennel cough as well as an enormous bladder stone that was causing significant discomfort and nearly obstructing her ability to urinate.

We took Blanche in knowing she needed us, regardless of what her future might look like.

Since coming to Misfit Manor, Blanche has undergone surgery to remove that very large bladder stone, and we are so happy to say that she is recovering beautifully. She is much more comfortable, healing well, and finally getting to experience what it feels like to simply be cared for.

During her surgery, however, another finding was discovered: Blanche has a mass attached to her bladder. Because of its location, it cannot be surgically removed. A biopsy was taken and sent to the laboratory, and we are currently waiting for those results to give us a better understanding of what this may mean for her long-term prognosis.

Blanche also has a heart murmur and impaired vision in one eye. Despite the vision impairment, she functions remarkably well. She navigates her surroundings normally, finds her way around without difficulty and does not appear to bump into things or struggle with her environment.

For now, Blanche is doing well — and we don't want uncertainty about tomorrow to stop us from looking for something wonderful for her today.

Blanche is approximately 8 years old and is one of the sweetest little dogs you could ask for. Throughout everything she has been through, she has not shown a single sign of aggression. She is gentle, quiet, loving and incredibly deserving of kindness.

What Blanche needs more than anything is a soft place to land.

We are looking for a very special person or family who understands that adopting a senior dog can look a little different. Someone compassionate and patient. Someone comfortable loving a dog with some ongoing medical considerations and an uncertain long-term prognosis. Someone who isn't measuring their time together by how many years they are guaranteed, but by how much love they can fit into whatever time they are given.

Blanche deserves to know that she is safe. She deserves soft beds, gentle voices, affection, good medical care and a person who will never make her feel unwanted or disregarded again.

Misfit Manor has invested extensively in Blanche's medical care because she needed it — not because we ever expected anything in return. If Blanche remains with us, she will always have a home here. But we also know there are extraordinary people who specifically open their hearts to seniors and medically special dogs, and we don't want to overlook the possibility that Blanche's person may be out there.

We will be very selective about Blanche's placement. This is not about finding her a home quickly. It is about finding the right home.

Her biopsy results are still pending, and any prospective adopter will be given complete transparency regarding her medical history, available records and updated prognosis as we receive more information.

If you are the kind of person who believes an older dog deserves just as much of a happily-ever-after as a puppy does, Blanche may have been waiting for you.

Blanche
Approximately 8 years old
Sweet, gentle senior girl
No aggression observed
Recovering well following bladder-stone surgery
Bladder mass present; biopsy results pending
Heart murmur
Impaired vision in one eye, but navigates very well
Seeking a compassionate, committed senior/special-needs home

Sometimes a happy ending isn't measured by how long it lasts.

Sometimes it's simply knowing that, from this day forward, every single day is filled with love.
