Blackie's Story

Please read before commenting.
Blackie is currently in a loving foster home. His foster absolutely adores him and is committed to caring for him — but she is a foster, and her goal (like all fosters) is to help him transition into his forever home. Comments suggesting “just keep him” are not helpful or appropriate. Rescues depend on fosters to save lives and free kennel space. Please respect that.
Now, let’s talk about #Blackie.
Blackie is a sweet, gentle, 6-year-old boy who has been through more than any dog should. He was previously in a home with an owner who could no longer care for him. After coming into rescue, Blackie unfortunately suffered a seizure that resulted in a neck injury, likely connected to his ongoing battle with Lyme disease.
Despite all of this, Blackie remains incredibly loving, calm, and easygoing.
What Blackie is like in foster care:
• Sweet and affectionate
• Fully housebroken
• Calm, gentle, and easygoing
• Loves comfort and routine
• Needs a one-floor living space (he does not like stairs)
Medical Update:
• Currently on Prednisone & Gabapentin
• Neck pain is now minimal
• No urine leaking
• On restricted activity — short, slow potty walks only
• Lyme disease has been treated, though lingering effects remain
• His foster can continue as his medical foster until his forever home is found
Ideal Forever Home:
• Quiet, calm environment
• No stairs
• No rough play
• Preferably no other pets — or possibly a calm senior dog or cat
• Someone patient, gentle, and understanding
• A home willing to give him the peace he deserves
Blackie is not “just another dog.”
He’s a survivor.
He’s gentle.
He’s loving.

And he is so ready to finally rest in a home that’s his forever.
If interested in Blackie, please fill out an application at: healthyheartsproject.org/fadopt
