Black Jack's Story

The pre-adoption application is available on the website www.prairiepawsrescue.com

Meet Black Jack!
Black Jack is a handsome 3-year-old Shih-Tzu/Poodle mix who came to Prairie Paws Rescue as an owner surrender. Weight is 13 pounds. This little guy may need a little extra time and patience, but we believe there is a wonderful companion waiting to emerge once he feels safe and secure.
Black Jack is timid when meeting new people or experiencing unfamiliar surroundings. He doesn't immediately understand that new people are there to love him. When someone tries to pet him, he may back away, shy away, or even drop to the floor. His foster family is working patiently with him to help him build confidence and learn that people can be trusted.
Black Jack will need a family who understands that trust isn't built overnight. He needs someone who will allow him to come out of his shell at his own pace, celebrate the small victories, and never give up on him.
He currently lives with other dogs around his size in his foster home. When another dog gets too close, Black Jack may growl and then move away. We believe this may be his way of saying, I need some space, please! and could be a form of self-protection while he is still learning to feel comfortable.
Black Jack could also use a refresher course in house training. A consistent routine and patient guidance will be important for his success. One thing he does very well is keeping his crate clean overnight and while his foster family is away for 45 hours.
Black Jack is a door dasher! He can quickly slip through an open door and may be difficult to catch once he gets loose. For his safety, his new family will need to have a secure, completely fenced yard and be very careful when entering and exiting the home.
Black Jack isn't looking for a family who expects him to be perfect from day one. He's looking for someone who will give him time, patience, consistency, and lots of encouragement.
If you're willing to let Black Jack learn to trust you on his own terms, you may just discover a very special little dog underneath that shy exterior. With the right family and a little patience, Black Jack has the potential to become a wonderful and loving family companion.
Black Jack was recently groomed- Thank you to Lacey at Kona's Edge for grooming him.
Could you be the patient person who helps Black Jack discover just how good life can be?
All medical work is completed prior to adoption including neuter shots worming flea treatment rabies shot kennel cough micro chip grooming and vet exam.
The adoption fee is $200 + tax with an approved application. The pre-adoption application is available on the website www.prairiepawsrescue.com.
Prairie Paws Rescue does not adopt on a first come basis but who will provide the best home suited to the pets needs
