Birka's Story

Birka, 3 years old German shepherd female.

Birka is a very sweet dog who is still young and full of potential. She is very eager to learn and please. Easily motivated with good handler focus and food/toy drive. She thrive in an active pet home willing to provide her with the proper daily mental and physical needs.

Potty trained
Crate trained - clean and non destructive. Will alert if she needs to go out by pacing/whining. Otherwise, she settles very well and is quiet.
Good in the car with a seatbelt.
Knows sit, down, wait, come, out (to release a toy), crate, place.
High food drive and medium toy drive
Treadmill trained
Good for basic care - nail clipper/dremel, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, coat maintenance, bath and blow dry.
Good with other dogs her size or bigger when properly introduced. Would pair best with a dog that likes to rough play.

HIGH prey drive. Not suited for a home with small pets of ANY kind.
Likes to jump, but has been improving. Would be best suited in a home with older kids if any or adults.

Birka loves using her nose, running and chasing. I could see her excel in various sports such as scent work, barn hunt, lure coursing, and likely more. She is walked on a prong and learning a heel position. Has been introduced to an e-collar by a previous foster. We are currently working on adding more duration to her commands.

Birka will require a confident handler who is gentle yet firm with their commands and expectations. One that will provide structure, consistency and who will continue encouraging her to make the right decisions. Like a real German shepherd, she is guardian and protective of her environnment if she is not properly structured.
