Bijou's Story

Meet Bijou — A Tiny Warrior with a Heart of GoldWhen Bijou first came to us, she was barely recognizable — hairless, pink, and burning up from severe demodectic mange. She was scared, in pain, and had every reason to distrust the world. But this little fighter never gave up.Over the past month, something magical happened. With love, medical care, and patience, Bijou began to heal. Her soft fur is slowly coming back, patch by patch, like whispers of hope. And her heart? It's opening wider every day. She's learning that not all hands bring pain — some bring warmth, safety, and gentle pets. Now fully vetted and medically cleared, Bijou is ready for her forever home. She's quiet, observant, and deeply affectionate in her own shy way. She may start cautious, but with a calm voice and a little time, she'll curl right up beside you — a quiet testament to how much she trusts you.Bijou isn't just a survivor. She's a teacher. She shows us that even the most broken starts can heal. That resilience isn't loud — it's the quiet blink of an eye, the first time a scared soul chooses to step forward. She's not just looking for a home. She's looking for someone who sees her strength, honors her past, and celebrates her soft, fuzzy future.Adopt Bijou, and you're not just saving a life — you're gaining a loyal, loving companion who'll remind you every day of the power of second chances.~~If you are interested in this animal, you can complete the questionnaire found on the available pets page of our website http://hbpr.org. Homeward Bound Pet Rescue Inc.'s Adoption Policy
Adoption process: The process starts by completing an online questionnaire which can be found on the available pets section of our web site: http://hbpr.org The questionnaire gathers basic information and is not any type of formal commitment from you. When you submit it, it is automatically sent to our adoption team. One person from the team who is working with that specific dog/cat will contact you regarding your application. It may take several days before you hear anything. Usually they call you and discuss the application. They try to understand what you are looking for and if the animal you are interested in will be what you want. They answer any questions you may have. If both of you agree that the animal could be a good fit, then a "meet and greet" is arranged. These normally take place at our kennel in Ellijay but can be other places. You would bring all family members living in your house, and any dogs you already have. We don't require bringing cats as most don't travel well. You, your family, and your existing dogs will meet the animal of interest and see if you and your family still like him/her after seeing his/her general demeanor and size, energy, etc. Then we see if they will get along with your existing pets, if any. If it all goes well and looks good, then you will have an opportunity to take the animal home on a trial basis for up to 1 month. Adoption fees (normally around 300.00 - cash, check, charge) are collected if you take the animal on trial. The fees cover our costs in preparing the animal for adoption: shots, deworming, microchip, spay/neuter. You have up to 1 month to decided if its the right fit, but if you decide in 1 week, that this is perfect - you let us know, and we consider the adoption to be final. We register the chip to you and you are the proud owner of that animal. If things don't go well during that month, you may return the animal to us for a full refund of the fees.
