Big Boy Buddy's Story
UPDATE

URGENT: Buddy needs a home.
Buddy is stressed and simply isn't doing well in the shelter environment. The changes in his life have been hard on him. He came to us after a tragic event happened to his family, and since then, he's been trying to navigate a world that suddenly looks very different than the one he knew. We're hoping someone can give him the fresh start he so desperately needs.
At 6 years old and 85 pounds, Buddy is a whole lot of dog. He's big, strong, and has a personality to match. Despite his size, he can be surprisingly easygoing. He enjoys spending time outside, sniffing around the yard, checking everything out, and just taking in the world around him.
But if you really want to see Buddy light up, grab a ball or toy. Fetch is hands down his favorite thing in the world. He'll happily chase just about anything you throw or kick for him, and he'll do it over and over again with the enthusiasm of a dog half his age. The only catch? Buddy thinks the game is called "you throw it, I keep it." Returning the toy is apparently optional in his opinion.
Buddy has done well with our volunteers. He likes attention, enjoys hanging out with his people, and is happiest when he's getting to spend time with someone who wants to include him in their day.
Buddy would do best as the only dog in the home, as he is not dog friendly. He has not been tested with cats.
To help Buddy find his person, his adoption fee has been fully sponsored, and his heartworm treatment for the year is already covered.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Meet Big Boy Buddy: a dog you simply won't forget once you look into his eyes. At 6 years old and 80 pounds, this handsome German Shepherd has a massive presence, a giant head made for scratching, and a heart that is completely ready to bond with a new person.

Through absolutely no fault of his own, Big Boy Buddy's world was turned upside down by a tragic family event. It's clear he was deeply loved, and navigating this big loss has been confusing for him. Like any loyal Shepherd, he just wants stability, structure, and someone to call his own again. He is a big boy in every sense, big paws, big personality, and that classic Shepherd watchfulness.

Big Boy Buddy is unfortunately heartworm positive, but after a veterinary evaluation, a less invasive treatment plan has been recommended due to his age. While he will need some extra management and care, this does not mean his life is on pause he is more than capable of living a full, happy, and enriched life with a family willing to give him that chance.

The Quick Stats:

Breed: German Shepherd

Age/Weight: 6 years old, 80 lbs

Animal Compatibility: Must be the only dog in the home (he is not dog-friendly). Cat testing is available upon request for serious applicants.

Health Note: Heartworm positive (vet-approved management plan in place).

Big Boy Buddy has already lost so much. What he needs now is someone willing to look past a medical diagnosis and see the fiercely loyal, loving companion standing right in front of them.

If you are ready to give Big Boy Buddy the second chance and the comfort of a home that he so deeply deserves, please fill out an application here: https://www.bellwetherharbor.org/adoptions/application-for-adoption/
