Big Bear's Story

"Big Bear" is a 3 year old male Akita looking for a forever home. He was recently surrendered to our facility as a very emaciated boy with severe skin/fur issues. He weighed just 57 lbs at intake. Since his intake, Bear has gained at least 20 lbs and is still gaining weight. He was at one point, close to 100 lbs so that will likely be where he will end up again by the time he is well. Likely due to his previous starvation, Bear has some food aggression and cannot be placed with children. He would do best in a home with Akita experience and might be fine with dog friends depending on demeanor. Bear does not like the vet and some services must be done with a specific approach or sedatives, but he truly is a good boy. He is eligible for rescue pull OR a very experienced dog savvy adopter (ideally with breed experience). His adoption fee is $150, and he is now neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm tested negative. Please stop by the shelter to visit and adopt, or call/email with questions: 630-553-9256 or animalcontrol@kendallcountyil.gov
