Beverly's Story

Beverly is a beautiful, very dark blue, 5-year-old cattle dog who is incredibly smart, sweet, affectionate, and highly engaged with her people. She walks well on leash, knows sit and down, and has an excellent recallduring her evaluation, she turned on a dime and came directly to her handler when called from a distance.

Beverly is extremely people-friendly and would thrive with an experienced owner who understands herding breeds and enjoys training. A home with children 12 and older would be the best fit, as younger children have made her nervous.

Beverly has shown moderate resource guarding, but responded well to management during her evaluation. She has also shown mild leash reactivity when unexpectedly encountering people or dogs on trails. Continued training will help build her confidence and decrease her sensitivity around resources.

Beverly has a strong prey drive, particularly around horses. A hobby farm could still be a wonderful fit, but livestock should be securely separated by fencing and interactions carefully supervised while she continues working on impulse control.

Beverly is currently doing well on a low dose of Prozac, which should be continued under veterinary guidance. With an experienced, committed person, this bright and affectionate girl has the potential to be an incredibly devoted and rewarding partner.

Please visit our website www.vipp.org to learn more about this amazing pet and to see other available dogs and cats.

Vashon Island Pet Protectors's Adoption Policy
Vashon Island Pet Protectors will consider adoptive families in the Vashon and surrounding areas. This is simply due to logistics and distance of travel for our volunteers. Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the animal's background and your family's needs. Every animal is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a forever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right animal with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet's permanent home.
