Betty's Story
Age: 10 years
Weight: 5.2 lbs.
Adoption Fee: $200
Fostered in Texas
Email: linsyorkies@yahoo.com

2/1/25 - Betty has been doing well in physical therapy. She does not have 100% use of her leg. Unfortunately, her body produced some excess bone while healing from the surgery so her leg is in a fixed position at the point of her lower leg. It is a bit shorter than her other leg so she carries it. She can put it down but being a small dog, she can just run without using it. In therapy and while walking with her brace, she will use it but that does not carry over when the brace is off. She is at least in better alignment now and her leg does not stick out like it did and she can scratch with her leg. She is the absolute sweetest girlie ever and does not have a clue there is anything not working 100%.

She recently had a bout of pancreatitis so she has had a diet change and is eating canned gastro low fat food.

Her dental to remove her last two teeth is scheduled for 2/12/25.

11/18/24 - Betty is starting physical therapy to assist her in using her leg again. We had a custom made brace done for her. She will be starting with that next week. Donations appreciated.

9/4/24 - Betty goes to the surgeon weekly for a splint/bandage change. She is doing well.

8/8/24 - Betty had her surgery to reconstruct her Achilled tendon yesterday and is in her foster home recuperating. It was a bit of a tedious surgery; but, we are hopeful her leg will heal well and she can start to use it again. She is spending much of her day being wheeled around in a stroller so she can be with her foster family all the time.

7/29/24 - Betty was seen by the ortho surgeon and she is scheduled to have achilles tendon reconstruction on Aug 7, 2024. She will have an internal fixator until it heals and then will need a minor surgery to remove the fixator at a later date.
We are thrilled at the prospect of being able to help her return to walking on that leg!

6/7/24 - Betty ended up with kennel cough from the shelter she came from; so, her ortho evaluation and surgery has been postponed. She is ok, but we don't want to do surgery while ill and certainly don't want to expose other pets at the surgeons office. We will update when she is rescheduled.

5/29/24 - Betty was found as a stray and ended up in a shelter that reached out to us because she has a torn Achilles tendon. She is a very sweet little pup who wags her tail at everyone! We will update more about her personality later, but she really needs medical attention before she can be adopted.

We will update her bio after she is seen by the specialist on June 6, 2024. We do know she will need surgery, but we are not sure what will be done. Our vet is not sure if the tendon tear is a new or old injury so much will depend on that. For now, on our front page we are posting her vet bill costs plus her referral to the specialist but we suspect her bills will be much higher.

Thank you for any help you can give whether a monetary donation or prayers for sweet Betty.
