Beth NY's Story

Meet Beth! Fostered in Maine!

Beth's known story begins a few months ago when a man dropped her off at a shelter in Long Island, NY. He claimed she was a stray, but it is suspected he was her owner.

Beth did not enjoy shelter life. She had severe anxiety to the point of requiring sedatives every day. It was too loud and active for her. Her anxiety showed in the form of panting, pacing, and growling. Three months passed and her time was up. To avoid euthanasia, Australian Shepherds Furever a 501c3 non profit stepped in to save her.

Beth is a black tri colored Aussie (mix?), estimated at about 5 years of age. She has adorable curly hair, a cute nub tail, and weighs in at about 42 lbs.

The GOOD:

Spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and preventatives
Heartworm Negative
Potty trained
Crate trained
Walks well on leash
Loves car rides, hiking, ZOOMIES, anything outside
Tennis balls are LIFE
Good for bath time
Loves people (slow intro to new, warms up quick)
Great with other (slow intro to new)
Good with dog-savvy , though will chase if one runs by! Oops!
Couch snuggles are the best and she will paw at you to get those chest scratches in!
Knows SIT and DOWN

The Beth CHALLENGE:

Dogs on TV require protecting the home in the form of barking and growling. Desensitization in progress!
Too much activity inside the home is stressful and pacing and chewing random things is SOOTHING. Beth prefers a quiet home (kids teenage+ only). One or two other dogs is just fine.
Stranger danger results in grumbles until it appears SAFE, then all is well. Beth recovers quickly once she knows there is no threat.

IDEAL HOME: Beth is learning how to settle in a quiet household with minimal activity. Because of her anxiety (she will come with sedatives to use as needed), she requires a home that is quiet, with minimal traffic. One or two dogs to play with are fine. Cats are negotiable. Kids at home need to be teenage-aged or older, and respectful of her space. She will need to build some confidence in order to be comfortable and happy the rest of her life, so experience in this area, or working with a POSITIVE trainer is a must.

Beth is a love who wants to be with her people. She needs someone to meet her where she is in life, understanding that it's not been the greatest for her thus far.

If you are interested in meeting Beth, please message me or fill out an adoption application:

https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application

There are some additional fees: $20 microchip transfer fee to register and transfer him to his new furever family
