Bert's Story
Meet Bert! Bert is a 10-year-old Shih Tzu with the soul of a retired grandfather and the standards of royalty.

This sweet, easygoing little guy is happiest living life at a slower pace, sniffing the grass, taking gentle walks, lounging beside his person on the couch, and being included in whatever quiet adventure the day brings.

Bert is deaf, partially blind, a little creaky in the joints, and absolutely convinced that if he politely asks to be lifted onto the couch, someone should respond immediately. Ramps and stairs, according to Bert, are beneath him. He's currently on a healthy weight loss journey and thriving with gentle care and routine.

One of the most touching things about Bert is that he's still learning how good life can be. He wasn't taken outside much in his previous home, and now he seems genuinely delighted to discover he gets to go out into the grass, sniff the air, and enjoy the world around him. He's also learning that regular access to the outdoors = regular access to better places for potty, and doing well in the house with the help of pee pads as he gets this new routine down.

Despite everything his body has been through, Bert remains incredibly happy and full of love. He wags his tail while sniffing the grass, melts into couch cuddles, and approaches life with a calm, relaxed sweetness that makes everyone around him soften instantly.

Bert does have some medical needs, including a collapsing trachea, arthritis, cataracts, and a mild heart condition that may require medication in the future. He also needs help navigating stairs and getting on and off furniture safely. But Bert isnt looking for pity - he's simply looking for someone kind enough to meet him where he is and help make his world comfortable.

Bert is the kind of dog who asks for very little. A soft couch. A helping hand. Slow walks. Grass to sniff. Someone to sit beside. In return, hell give you the quiet kind of companionship that feels like home.

Fostered in Alexandria, VA
Please apply at MirisHaven.org
