Bernie's Story

Bernie the Dachshund Mix Needs a Special Home - Plant City/FL
Meet Bernie, 3 years old and 17lb sweet dachshund mix looking for a loving and understanding forever home. Bernie has overcome a lot in his life—he recently had surgery on his knee (CCL and luxating patella), which left him with pins in his leg. While he now walks with a slight limp, he can stand up straight and run so he enjoys playing with other dogs. Most importantly, Bernie is no longer in pain, and his surgery was successful!

Bernie does need some special care:
No jumping: To protect his knees, Bernie should be kept from jumping.
Nervous around men: Bernie is still very nervous around men, so a female-only household would be ideal for him.
Follows foster mom everywhere: He loves to be near his person, whether sitting in the same room or snuggling in your lap.
Kennel trained: Bernie will go to his kennel when asked and feels safe there.
Afraid of the outdoors: Bernie is still scared of being outside and will try to run back inside, especially during the day. He needs a patient adopter willing to help him slowly build confidence.
Uses wee pads, washable mats: Bernie is great about using wee pads indoors.
Good in the car: He travels well in the car.
No small children: Bernie is easily scared and would do best in a quiet, adult-only home.
Needs a dog friend: Bernie came from a hoarding situation and gets anxious if left alone. He does best with another friendly dog in the home and gets along with all dogs—even loves puppies!

Bernie’s perfect home is one with women only, at least one other dog, and someone who understands his background and is willing to give him time and patience to adjust. He is a gentle soul who just wants to feel safe and loved.
If you think you have the patience and love to give, please apply:
https://doxierescue.wixsite.com/dsfh/adoption-form
