Bernice's Story
Bernice – Bulldog/Pit Bull mix – 3yrs – female (51lbs)

Introducing our adorable little mama, Bernice! She was first spotted loose on the streets by someone walking around. She was injured, emaciated, and looked like she has recently had puppies. The kind person tried to help, but someone else stepped in and said they knew where she belonged. Fast forward 8 months and the same good samaritan saw her again in the same horrible condition. This time she was able to get her in her car and took her home with her. Bernice was clearly starving, yet sooooo sweet. The woman made her a soft place to rest and started feeding her – boy can she eat! She was very tempted to keep her, but she had cats and Bernice was WAY too interested in them for it to be a safe situation. As a general rule, we don’t take in strays (our dogs come from county shelters), but our director has a soft spot for mama dogs that are forced to have litter after litter and she decided to help this sweet mama. We fell in love with Bernice immediately and she’s now been spayed and is feeling much better all around.

Bernice is happy, curious, and silly. We love seeing her personality bloom! She gained weight quickly and would continue to gain if we let her, she’s definitely a “foodie”. 😂 She appears to be housebroken and loves her walks, but pulls like a bull out of sheer excitement so leash training will be needed. She has a few play-buddies at the rescue and does well, but definitely would choose people attention over anything else. Bernice would love to be someone’s best friend and couch-potato. No more puppies for Bernice – now it’s her turn at a spoiled life filled with love and care!
