Bernard's Story
FIRST STEPS: Please visit https://www.save-a-mutt.org/adoption-application/ to fill out an application - a Petfinder Inquiry is not the adoption process. We don't do meet and greets until applications have been approved. All our dogs are located IN Washington State - we are a local foster based rescue and no transport from another state required. :) Thanks!

---

Meet Bernard, aka Bernie. Yes, it's funny, cuz he's a Bernedoodle, but his foster family thought it was a fitting name! :) Bernie was purchased by family and just days after bringing him, had a family crisis. It was not a good time for a puppy. And well, Doodle breeders are usually in it for the money, so the family gave him to us and Rescue.

Currently in a foster home, he is learning all things puppy - create training, housebreaking, and more! Bernie is a new years baby. When he's ready to go home, he will be about 14 weeks old.

Bernie's adopter MUST be prepared to include grooming in their budget.
He is NOT a hypoallergenic dog.

We are a little perplexed by his size. At 12 weeks old, he's in the 10# range, so hard to say his final size, but we think it will be in the 30-40# range. He's supposed to be a Miniature Bernedoodle.

When he goes home, Bernie will be is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated to appropriate age. He will need one more DHPP at 17-18 weeks - he will have his Rabies, and have completed his Leptospirosis vaccines. Puppies are good with dogs, cats, kids and more. Being a puppy, they will need lots of training, including housebreaking. Remember, puppies are cute, but they have sharp teeth, need to be fed 3 times a day and poop... a lot!

The 3-3-3 rule is a guideline for transitioning a rescue dog into its new home and helping it to settle in. It suggests that the first three days should be used for adjusting to its new surroundings, the next three weeks for training and bonding, and the first three months for continued socialization and training.

Each dog goes home with a goody bag including collar/leash, toys, chews, Kong, and more. You will receive all medical records, microchip transfer form and other paperwork at the time of adoption.

Adoptions typically take place in Marysville. We don’t hold puppies, adoption applications may be approved in just a few days depending on how quickly references respond. If you are planning on a vacation or have an issue that may delay your ability to pick up your puppy within a few days of approval, please let us know in advance. He will be ready for his new home after April 8th.

Adoption fee is $850. Save-A-Mutt is a registered 501c3 and half of your adoption fee may be tax deductible.

Save-A-Mutt is a foster based rescue, we do not have a facility to visit. Our adoptions are typically done Monday - Saturday, we are closed on Sunday’s to give our volunteers at least one day off. You must be available to do meets and adoptions during that time frame. We can make exceptions only with the approval of the foster home.

Please note, we have approximately a 300 mile adoption radius - Portland OR area and Vancouver BC is the farthest north. We don’t ship dogs, once approved you must pick them up in Snohomish County, WA. Canadian adopters must be able to come to Stanwood WA to pick up your puppy.
