Benny's Story

Hi, I’m Benny (Grumpy Face, Soft Heart)
My Story (Told by Me)

So... you want to know about me. I’m Benny — a grumpy-looking, secretly soft Frenchie who was once someone’s pet and then suddenly found himself unwanted. I landed at Long Beach Animal Shelter, and thanks to Freedom Frenchie Rescue, I was given a second chance. Now I’m navigating this whole “rescue life” thing, learning that the world can be safer and kinder than I once believed.

The Honest Stuff
I can come off a little grumpy at first. I bond strongly with my people and prefer calm, respectful interactions. Like many Frenchies, I’m sensitive and observant, and I do best in an environment that isn’t overly chaotic. Once I feel secure, I relax and show just how affectionate I really am.

The Sweet Side (Yes, It’s Real)
Under the grumpy exterior, I’m a serious cuddle bug. I love belly rubs, ear scratches, gentle affection, warm blankets, and curling up near my person while they work or relax. I enjoy having my own space but will happily come over for affection, melt into your arms, then wander back to my bed like I meant to do that all along. In a calm home with one or two dogs, I truly shine

My Manners & Training
I’m fully potty trained and eat two meals a day. I’m learning basic commands like “sit” and how to wait politely for treats — patience is a work in progress, but I’m improving every day. Indoors, I am done wearing a belly band as a reminder, and outside I handle my business like a gentleman. I may give off a tough vibe, but I genuinely want to do well and please my people.

My Daily Routine
I enjoy quiet, cozy spaces and a predictable routine. I love laying in a dog bed near the TV or tucking myself under a desk while you work. I’m observant, curious, and independent, and I settle nicely once I know what to expect. I’ll be moving into a long-term foster soon, where my personality will continue to blossom.

Why I Might Be Your Dog
I’m affectionate in my own way, smart, sensitive, and deeply loyal. I bond strongly with my people and thrive with consistency and patience. I don’t need perfection — just someone who understands Frenchies and is willing to let trust grow naturally.

A Note From My Temporary Foster
At first, Benny needed time and space to decompress — and once he had it, his personality began to shine. He became more playful, curious, and engaged with the world around him. The right home will continue to bring out his confidence and fun side with time and understanding.

My Next Chapter
I’ll be moving into a long-term foster home soon, where we’ll learn even more about who I am. But for now, this much is clear:
I’m a potty-trained, independent, cuddle-loving Frenchie with a lot of heart — and I’m ready for a home that sees me for who I am. If you love Frenchie's but your not a cuddle then I am your dude!
P.S I am vaccinated, neutered, and microchipped, fostered in Gilbert, AZ (future) and you can apply for me at freedomfrenchierescue.org, and read how the adoption process works! Also do not apply for me if you want me to be your fashion statement, that is not my cup of tea!

Love,
Soft Hearted Benny
