BEN's Story

Blue eyed Benny is in search of a home! He is a neutered shepherd mix, roughly 1.5 years old, vaccinated, and undergoing heartworm treatment. His ideal family will have a big brother or sister dog to show him "how to be a dog," kids age 9+, a fenced yard, and patient people. He is a tender hearted sweetie pie who will turn you to mush with his gentle snuggles!

Ben is a little socially awkward, but so eager to figure life out! He was born in Texas to a feral mama, who finally accepted help from rescuers once she had a litter on the way. He grew up in outdoor kennels around a team of dog lovers, so although he's a rescue, he's never lived a day on the streets or been mistreated. Most of his littermates got adopted while they were tiny, but Ben and his brother Ramsey were the quirkiest of the bunch, and always overlooked. We are helping him adjust to being a house dog and hoping to find his perfect family!

He picked up on kennel training immediately, keeping quiet and having almost no accidents. You will often find him relaxing in his kennel even with the door open, it's a comfortable cozy den for him. We've had success with potty training when letting him out in a fenced area. However, leashes are still new to him, and he won't potty while leashed. In time, we're sure he'll learn that leashes are fun because he will get to explore the neighborhood!

Ben is definitely shy at first, but quick to seek out friends. Little kids are a bit too much for him, but older kids and adults that understand personal space are perfect! He would thrive with a confident dog as his BFF. He gets a little bit playful at times, and has been passive as his brother steals all the toys away from him.

If you think you can show Ben how sweet life can be, please reach out to Kristine at 605-770-3303
