BELLE's Story

Whoever named Belle had the right idea, because this pup is a true beauty. Yes, she may look a little different, but in our opinion that is an endearing feature that only adds to her charm. Belle qualifies as a “golden girl” not just because of her age (9 years young) but also because of her lovely soft coat, which is golden brown in the sun, and her 24-karat gold heart, which overflows with devotion and affection toward her humans. Although Belle may seem reserved at first, with time she warms up to show her affectionate and playful side. She loves scratches and tummy rubs, playing catch and keep away with a squeaky ball, and getting every last drop of peanut butter out of a Kong toy. When she’s happy she will show it by zooming around the house in a “happy dance.” Belle is wonderful meeting people of all ages, toddler and up. She is good about not jumping up (keeps “four on the floor”) and quickly warms up to visitors in the home. Belle enjoys walks on neighborhood sidewalks and woodland trails. On walks, Belle loves to take in the world through her nose. She also likes to stop every now and then to observe her surroundings, watching with interest, but not chasing, squirrels and rabbits. Belle gets a gold star for her manners in the house – fully housebroken, knows her boundaries (e.g., stays off the bed, no counter-surfing), and only chews on things she is supposed to. While in foster she took an in-person training class and showed that you can teach an older dog new tricks – especially if you have chicken pieces or bits of string cheese as training treats! (Other treats she enjoys are anything with peanut butter on it, blueberry pancakes, and cooked green peas -- really!).
