Belle's Story

Meet Belle — The Couch Princess With a Heart of Gold (and Fewer Teeth to Brush)!

If perfection came with a wagging tail and a love of naps, it would look a lot like Belle. This 11-year-old, 22-pound bundle of sweetness is what happens when you combine “gentle grandma energy” with a sprinkle of sass and a strong commitment to couch time.

Belle doesn’t bark (because she’s way too classy for that nonsense), gets along beautifully with dogs, and is assumed to love humans too — because, really, how could she not? Her foster mom says she’s so wonderful she’d keep her herself if the timing were right. That’s high praise from a seasoned pro!

She’s mostly housebroken but, fair warning, she’s not a fan of marathon wait times when nature calls — 10+ hours is asking a bit much for any lady her age.

Belle’s favorite hobbies include:
- Lounging on couches and cozy beds (preferably both).
- Supervising household activities from a soft, elevated surface.
- Melting hearts with her gentle charm.

She’s recovering beautifully after having 17 teeth removed — and though her snout’s a little puffy, her spirit’s as bright as ever. She may be a senior, but she’s still got some pep in her paws and plenty of love left to give.

Belle recently went on a little field trip with a professional dog walker, and—no surprise here—she was a total sweetheart! She handled the new environment like a pro. While she was a bit unsure at first (hey, new places can be weird!), she stayed calm and friendly around other dogs and clearly enjoyed her time exploring the trails.

Belle’s walking style? Let’s call it enthusiastically forward-focused. She likes to keep things moving but still takes time to stop for the occasional sniff—because priorities. And when her walker crouched down to give her pets, Belle immediately climbed into her lap for snuggles.

In short: she’s gentle, affectionate, and a total doll who’s happiest when she’s close to her people.

Adopt Belle, and you’ll never binge-watch alone again — she’s the perfect partner for lazy Sundays, quiet evenings, and a lifetime of love.

If you are interested in finding out more about Belle, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser:

https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog

Belle is being fostered in Shrewsbury, MA.

The adoption fee is $400.

Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!.

Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram!

Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Broken Tail Rescue's Adoption Policy
Our Adoption Process Broken Tail Rescue is looking for responsible and caring people to give a dog or cat their much-needed second chance at happiness. To adopt from us, you must first complete an application, which you can complete online here: https://www.brokentailrescue.org/adopt/ Once we receive your application, the foster parent or application team will be in touch with you within a few days to discuss the application and the pet you are applying for. If the pet is a good match for your family, you will then be asked to meet the pet at the foster parent’s home, if applicable, or come to one of our cat adoption centers during our adoption hours. We ask that all members of the household come out to meet the pet. If you are applying for a dog, all current dogs in the household need to come meet the dog as well. If the animal is a good fit for your home (canines only), we will then check your references. We ask for two personal references and the name of the vet that you currently use or have used in the past. The last step in the adoption process is the home visit (canines only). We just want to make sure your home is generally a safe place for the pet to live and confirm the address listed on the application. After the home visit, the adoption can be completed! Paperwork is completed at the foster home, and you can take home your new pet! While the process may seem extensive, it generally is not a long, drawn-out process – we can move as quickly as schedules allow, and most adoptions are completed in under a week. However, we feel it is important to take time to make sure we are matching the pet to the correct home. We would hate for a pet to be returned to us because of a hasty decision. Adoption Guidelines The following are just a few initial guidelines you should consider before deciding to adopt: Some adoptions will require adopters to enroll the dog in training classes as a condition of adoption There may be additional adoption requirements for puppies (puppy socialization classes, someone home during the day, etc.) Renters must have landlord’s permission Adopters must be 21 years of age or older All adoptive homes must be stable, supportive, and capable and willing to meet all financial and veterinary needs of the animal Adoption Fees Adoption fees help defray the cost of transportation, care, and medical treatment. Dogs Our adoption fees are generally between $300 and $400 for most adult dogs and puppies and are decided on a case-by-case basis. All dogs adopted from Broken Tail Rescue will be spayed or neutered, receive a veterinary exam, be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and started on preventive, dewormed, given flea and tick treatment if needed, and microchipped. Cats Our adoption fee varies by age for cats and kittens: 1 Kitten (under 12 months): $350 2 Kittens: $650 1 Young Cat (1-4yrs): $275 2 Young Cats: $500 1 Adult Cat (5-9 yrs): $225 2 Adult Cats: $400 Senior (10+ yrs): $150 Special Needs Cat: $150 or TBD 2 Senior or Special Needs: $250 or TBD All cats adopted from Broken Tail Rescue will be spayed or neutered, receive a veterinary exam, be up to date on vaccinations, FeLV/FIV tested, dewormed, given flea and tick treatment, and microchipped.
