Bella's Story
Bella, less than a year old, was thrown from the window of a moving vehicle in Texas. A lovely lady found her and took Bella into her home but needed help getting her veterinary care. Home Run Hounds Animal Rescue, Inc. has taken her under our wing and raised funds for Bella to be admitted to a veterinary hospital.

When Bella arrived to the hospital, it was unknown whether she would live to see the next day. She could not move her body and the injury to her left eye and traumatic brain injury was obvious.

Bella stayed at that hospital for about 5 days. During those five days, her prognosis wavered because her temperature was not stabilized nor were her electrolytes.

However, the fight in this little girl is fierce. She began to show very small improvements each day in that she could lie in her kennel and move her body to the other side of the kennel. She then began wagging her tail and rolling over to ask the vet techs for belly rubs.

On the second to last day, Bella stood up in her kennel. It was something we prayed for but didn’t know we would ever see.

After those five days, we had her transported to a larger facility called Gulf Coast Veterinary in Houston. There, she was seen by neurologists and ophthalmologists who were able to determine the appropriate care for her. She had eye surgery to repair her damaged cornea in hopes that she will regain vision in that eye.

While at Gulf Coast, Bella took a few steps. And then, she was actually walking. Learning to be a dog.

An amazing medical foster has been caring for Bella on a temporary basis. Now, Bella acts like a real puppy. She wants to RUN and PLAY!

Bella takes eye drops right now a few times a day. She still has a SLIGHT head tilt but it does NOT seem to bother her. She walks, she runs, she PLAYS! The neurologist said that time will likely heal and she will live a normal life.

Bella has the will to fight any fight put in front of her. She has shown a tremendous amount of progress.

We will entertain applications from different states and can have her transported if the perfect home/adopter comes along.
