Bella's Story
This little cutie is Bella, just 20 months old and looking for a new home where she can be queen of the castle. As a young, active, healthy dog (recently spayed and up to date on vaccines as well), Bella is full of energy and play. As I spoke with her owner to learn more about her I learned that she’s a clown, strong, athletic, and an angel, sweet, and perfect. Sounds like a catch to me!

I haven’t met Bella in person (she’s currently in NW Oregon with her owner until we can find the right placement), but am told that she loves toys and loves her chews. Bella is well trained and well mannered. She’s a clever girl and loves to interact with her humans. Her owner told me “She knows come, sit, down, stay, heal, gentle, good girl, get the ball, where is it, no, go around, load (car). She absolutely loves fetching the ball – she practically puts the ball gently in your hand for the next throw. She is extremely smart, and food driven and when taking a treat from your hand, she is SO gentle. She loves when I hide the ball for her and show her my empty hands and ask, "where is it?” She also loves to go for hikes.”

Bella is strong and has a healthy prey drive – while her leash manners are very good, when she sees a squirrel or other animal on a hike, she will immediately take off after it. So if she sees it before you do, watch out! Bella sounds like a fantastic candidate for barn hunt or scent training (truffles, shed, trailing)!

Bella grew up with a now-senior German Shorthaired pointer female, and as she’s matured, she’s decided that she’s the boss of the GSP, and has become aggressive towards the older dog (who’s submissive to Bella). She’s also shown aggression towards another female dog (spaniel) that she’s known all her life. It doesn’t seem triggered by anything her owner can see, and Bella is fine when she sees other dogs on walks (not leash reactive) but she feels it’s best if Bella goes to a home without other dogs, so she can be the princess. And, with Bella’s high prey drive, cats are a NO.

To balance all of that, Bella LOVES people of all kinds. She can be a little shy aft first, but then totally adores you – “everyone falls in love with her.” She’s friendly and eager to please, and loves human attention. She’s never been around small children, so would be best in a home where the kids are older (12 and up). She rides beautifully in the car (LOVES road trips) and would do best in a home with someone with breed experience, who can keep her active and working with her in obedience, as well as fun things like agility or Fast CAT, or, as mentioned above, she’d be great at scent sports like barn hunt or NASDA scent training. She’s a great dog looking for a great home. Maybe that’s you?

Apply to adopt Bella: https://forms.spdrdogs.org/Adoption/

Washington State. No interstate transports.
