Bella's Story
BELLA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!
--------------------
Bella is the epitome of "happy." She is a big, sweet girl who loves everyone and loves life.

**BELLA IS LOOKING FOR A HOME ON ACREAGE.** Although she's a great dog who could fit into a home with a small yard and lots of exercise, a farm/acreage home - with a large fenced area, or perimeter fencing - is what her current owners want for her.

Bella is a black Lab x Black & Tan Coonhound who will be 2 in December. She weighs approx. 70 pounds.

Bella is currently living with her owners. Her current owners took her in from someone who paid close to $1000 for her as a pup, but realised she couldn't cope with a young child and an active puppy. Her current owners are heart-broken to rehome her, but for a few reasons, it's the right thing to do. They are looking for the right home for Bella and aren't desperate to rehome her quickly.

"Bad" stuff first: :-)

They live on acreage, have horses and two other dogs: a senior male large breed dog and a small female Chihuahua cross. Bella gets along with them both but when her owners aren't home, Bella is left home in the laundry room with the Chi x. Bella has some separation anxiety and she may do better in a home with another dog as she may get stressed when left alone. She chewed the wall a bit when she was younger and left alone (a puppy thing?...it just needed some drywall mud to repair; she didn't chew THROUGH the wall) but generally isn't destructive when left alone. However, they do leave her with another dog. Hasn't been crated by her current owner as they have a safe place (the laundry room) for her to stay.

Bella likes to dig holes in their fields and their large lawn, which isn't great when one owns horses, but she doesn't appear to be obsessive about it. She might try to dig under the fence if she was left in the yard unattended for extended time periods.

Bella is young and has lots of energy - although not "outta control" - and so needs lots of exercise. She is used to having acreage to run around on, especially when her owner is outside. She does jump up on people a bit, just to get your attention. She's such a love.

She's a tall dog when she stands up on her hind legs so will require a fence over 4' high. She used to try to climb over the fences but doesn't anymore. She is more likely to try to go under or find a space through - but if she sees something she really likes (such as another dog) - she might try to pop over a fence.

Loves to play ball but doesn't necessarily bring it back for you to throw/kick again. Brings it near to keep you engaged in the game. But of course fetching is easy to train. :-) Will watch the ball in your hand until you throw it.

Will try to counter surf but is learning, but that's simple to deal with...just don't leave food out.

Bella is an incredible girl in many ways. She is a happy dog...HAPPY is the best way to describe her. She likes to be near you and lean on you as you stroke her and rub her ears or bum or belly. She has a beautiful black silky coat which we could stroke for ages. :-) Long floppy hound ears that give her a sweet endearing expression. She's a sweet, sweet dog to hang out with but still is very active and needs lots of exercise because she is young. Not likely to be an Agility star, but we'd bet she'd still have fun with the obstacles. A bit of a goof...as you'd expect from a typical Coonhound x Lab pup.

Spayed, vaccinated and healthy, but it would be good to have her vet checked. Eats kibble with some homemade food added. Doesn't appear to have food allergies/sensitivities.

Drools a bit, and likely will drool more (stress) for the first month or so in a new home. [We keep a small old towel on the floor by our hounds' water bowl to mop up water from drippy lips.]

Will bark and is a good watch dog but not excessively noisy. Good with strangers. House trained and has some basic obedience training. Pretty good on leash. Likes to sniff sometimes but not as obsessive as a Coonhound. Doesn't take off when off leash, but obviously at first she'd have to be on leash/a longline when out of a fenced area. Seems okay with loud noises. Okay with chickens. Good with most other dogs and may try to go to visit them, but if they are playing ball, may steal their balls. Good in the back seat of a vehicle. Will go in water but not keen to swim. Past the puppy chewing stage but likes to chew on a bone and will tear apart stuffed animals. No problem touching any part of her body, including her feet.

Great with their cat: licks his head which he likes, so would love to live with a cat who likes dogs.

Bella is still with her owner, but if you are interested speaking with her owner or meeting her, please contact us and we'll put you in touch.
------------
UPDATE: Bella's owner has found her a new home!
