Beau Beau's Story
Meet Beau Beau!

Beau Beau is a charming little bully mix with a heart full of affection and a personality that’s simply irresistible. He came to FMAR as a stray from Sumpter, and while his past is a bit of a mystery, one thing is certain—he’s the definition of cute! With his stubby legs, pigeon-toed feet, and a few battle scars, Beau’s sweet and gentle spirit always shines through.

Beau absolutely loves spending time in the yard with his people, soaking up affection and rolling over for belly rubs. He’s made great progress with his leash manners and now walks beautifully with a nose loop slip lead. While he enjoys his playtime, he’s ultimately a low-key guy who’s happiest with a couple of daily walks, some enrichment, and a cozy spot on the couch.

Beau is incredibly smart, focused, and food-motivated, making him a joy to train. He’s already been introduced to scent work games and has picked them up quickly—mental stimulation like this is a fantastic outlet for him and something he truly thrives on.

Beau does best when his boundaries are respected. When meeting new people, he may initially show reactivity, so we ask that introductions are done on his terms. The best approach is to be “a tree” and allow Beau to come up, sniff, and decide when he’s ready to engage. When given that space, he blossoms into an absolute gem. When he feels pressured, he can look much more reactive—but this is simply his way of asking for respect and clarity, not a reflection of who he truly is.

Because of this, Beau will need an experienced, confident handler who understands canine body language and is committed to setting him up for success. He has shown reactivity toward unfamiliar people and other animals, so he will need to be the only pet in the home, with slow, structured introductions to new people.

Beau has been in our care for over a year, and we know just how incredible he can be in the right environment. He does not show resource guarding behaviors and forms strong, loyal bonds with the people he trusts. With the right person—someone willing to advocate for him, respect his needs, and continue his training—Beau Beau will be an unbelievably rewarding companion.

If you’re looking for a smart, affectionate, and deeply loyal dog and are ready to give him the structure and understanding he deserves, Beau Beau might just be your perfect match.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you would like to meet Beau Beau, please submit an application for him on our website https://www.friendsofmichigan.org/adoptable-dogs. He is neutered, up to date on all age appropriate vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. His adoption fee is $250, which helps cover the cost of the medical care he has received.

**Please note that the breed listed for each of our dogs is a rough estimate unless DNA results are provided in their Bio. All strays have rough estimates of their age based on the condition of their teeth. Each dog is different, so each adoption is different. Our adoption process might require multiple visits to the shelter before our dogs can go home. Or they may be ready on the first visit. It really depends on the individual dog and the potential adopters. Once we receive your application, the Dog Staff will contact you to discuss meeting our dogs.
