Bear - SPECIAL NEEDS's Story

Little Bear's human mama is having some serious health issues and has asked us to find a permanent new home for him. Bear was born into Mini Mutts Rescue 4 years ago and is a sweet little crazy happy dog!

After growing up a bit it was discovered that Bear has a VSD (hole between the chambers of his heart) a leaky valve and a Liver shuntheart problem. Because of this Bear cannot eat ANY, and we mean ANY, commerical food/treats OR red meat. He needs to get his proteins from vegetables and fish oil. Here is what his mama feeds him:

Following is the recipe I make for him:

4 c brown rice (uncooked)
2-3 boneless/skinless chicken thighs or breasts
1 & 1/3 quart water, pressure cook 15 minutes, natural release for 5 and then quick release

Remove chicken and chop/shred, adding back to pot, then add;
1 bag frozen peas & carrots, 1 bag frozen green beans, 1/2 bag frozen chopped spinach (don't thaw, it will mix in with the warm rice) add 1/2 can of 15oz pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling and mix well. I usually put into zip lock freezer bags and push down a knife or wooden spoon handle to create breakable portions after fr ozen. Thaw as needed and add 2-3 tablespoons plain greek yogurt and 1/2 tsp salmon oil and stir in. He will eat 4-5 1/2c meals a day.

I also give him 1/2 of a pet tab once a day as a added supplement.

He usually only has bowel movements in the morning, not always first thing, but will pee first thing in the morning. I feed him, then take him out again for #2 (picking it up & disposing of it otherwise he will try and eat it) and then throughout the day. Occasionally he will have a evening #2

His mama has discovered a dog food you can buy that Bear does very well with. Here is the link:

https://www.amazon.com/Dr-Harveys-Ground-Dehydrated-Holistic/dp/B004TW5OKG?pd_rd_w=ZoYrX&content-id=amzn1.sym.cb60bac5-4c07-4003-be3c-1b2fa1bc10ec&pf_rd_p=cb60bac5-4c07-4003-be3c-1b2fa1bc10ec&pf_rd_r=XEVF56B54HGEC3C2V787&pd_rd_wg=IzJ4G&pd_rd_r=acba50d3-60cc-426c-9fe2-cece6aa64253&pd_rd_i=B004TW5OKG&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_hxwhrp_sspa_dk_bia_0_2_scp_t&th=1

Bear will have seizers if he eats commercial dog food/treats and as a result of his last seizer (over a year ago since being on this veggie diet) his left eye went blind. When he has a seizure, it takes him about 24 hours to get back to normal and then he acts like nothing happened.

Bear would do best in a home as an only dog because of his issues with special diet and the attention he needs from his humans. He cannot be left alone for long periods of time and needs constant supervision.

If you feel you are the person able to take care of Bear as well as his current mama, please fill out our online application: www.minimuttsrescue.com/adoption-application.html

There is no adoption fee for Bear. Our goal is to find him a new forever home who will be diligent in his care and love him no matter what.

Thank you.

Bear is currently being fostered in North Olmsted, Ohio
