Bear is Emerging from Hibernation!<br/><br/>This Lab is currently in a foster home, which is CILRA's standard practice and allows us to learn more about the Lab before they are officially ready for adoption. It gives us time to evaluate the Labs personality, bring them up-to-date on vaccinations, and have them spayed/neutered if needed. If you are interested in this Lab, please keep checking the website for status updates or send an email of interest to adoptionteam@cilra.org.<br/><br/>Meet Bear, a mellow, easy-going 4-year-old black Lab who may be 80 pounds, but at heart, he's just a big cuddlebug looking for his people.<br/><br/>Bear previously lived outdoors, but he's quickly discovering that indoor life is pretty wonderful—especially when there's a cozy crate involved! He is crate trained and has decided his crate makes a great daytime hangout spot. He is still working on becoming fully potty trained, so he is crated overnight for now.<br/>Bear gets along well with his foster sister and has shown that he can be a well-behaved guy when out and about, including trips to PetSmart. We don't know yet how he feels about cats.<br/><br/>Like any bear learning his new surroundings, Bear is still working on a few things. He would be an excellent candidate for formal obedience training to help him learn leash walking and basic commands. The good news? Bear is very food motivated, so his humans will have a powerful training tool on their side!<br/><br/>Bear will need a securely fenced-in yard where he can safely stretch his legs and enjoy some outdoor time. Because of his size and strength, he would do best with older children or children who have experience living with and handling large dogs. <br/><br/>There is one important thing you should know: Bear is a devoted counter surfer. If something smells delicious, Bear may believe it belongs to him. His future family will need to help him learn that counters are for cooking, not canine snacking.<br/>And when the day is done? Bear is ready to cuddle. In fact, he is pretty much always ready for more cuddles.<br/><br/>Bear is COMING SOON and will be available for adoption once he is ready. If you're looking for a big, gentle guy with a calm personality, a love of food, and an even bigger love of his people, keep an eye out for Bear! He is currently being fostered in Fishers, IN. <br/><br/>*************<br/>Adopting a Lab can be a wonderful experience. Your new dog will need lots of love, adequate exercise and attention. Keep in mind that dog ownership may include additional costs for training, grooming, and health care beyond annual vaccines and monthly preventatives. Its a lifetime commitment!
