Bear - Adopted!'s Story

Bear is 12 yo and was surrendered to the shelter in Waukesha because his owner had a brain tumor and the woman's guardian put him in the shelter. He is a very good and quiet dog and from the moment he arrived he has not given me a moment of work or stress. He is so little work and is very compliant. He has never "quarreled" with any of my dogs (I have 3).

He loves his walks and loves to eat but is polite with both. He is very easy to walk, does not pull, but does like to sniff a lot. I have been walking him a mile a day and i do walk him 2 miles a couple of times a wk and on occasion I have walked him 3 miles and he does fine. He does also love to walk around the back yard and explore.

He has met big dogs and little dogs and children and is very polite with them. He's a dear boy and I am very attached to him. He was quite depressed when he came as i suspect he had a quiet routine previously and going to the shelter was very disruptive to him. It took several weeks before he came out of his funk and started acting like a normal dog again.

He is very healthy, has the teeth of a much younger dog, and has no health issues. We did do blood work and it all came back normal. So for a senior dog he is in surprisingly good health. He does not struggle to get up and walks well as i mentioned. He is a svelte 53 lbs. (at least he was when i picked him up at the shelter and he gets 1 cup of food in the AM and one in the evening so I am careful with them gaining weight).

When I first brought him home, I did not want to put him in a crate because he is older so he has always had free roam of the house and is very, very dependable. He is a damn near perfect dog which is why it took me so long to post him. He does like to sleep a lot and has a sweet and endearing snore.
