Bear's Story

Meet Bear — your loyal, laid-back adventure buddy 🐾
At 8 years young, this handsome German Shepherd mix has already lived quite a story and now he’s ready for his forever chapter. After losing his owner and ending up on a euthanasia list in California, Bear got a second chance and is now thriving in foster care in Colorado’s Western Slope, soaking up the good life and showing everyone just how special he is.
Bear is the definition of a gentle soul. He’s easy on leash, takes treats softly, and is happiest enjoying the simple things - long walks, car rides, chewing on a good bone, and cozy naps. He loves being near his people and has a calm, affectionate presence that makes him an easy companion.
He’s a social, people-loving dog who would do best in a home where someone is around often—work-from-home, retired, or a dog-friendly lifestyle would be ideal. A yard to relax in would be a big bonus.
Bear would thrive as the only dog in the home so he can soak up all the attention. He continues to learn new routines in foster care and is treat-motivated, making him a great candidate for continued training. Having a space of his own, like a crate, helps him feel safe and settled.
Bear is up-to-date on vaccinations and will come with some of his favorite things. He is not neutered. He also has a few minor, manageable health considerations, which his foster can happily discuss with interested adopters.
Ready to meet Bear? Dog Lover Rescue's Adoption Policy
APPLICATIONS ATE OUR PRIORITY. please submit these through our website at www.DogLoverRescue.org. Do not rely on a simple inquiry through this site. Apps are mandatory to get the ball rolling. Once an application has been submitted, we will reach out within 24-48 hrs to schedule a virtual meeting where we go over the application, get to know you and answer any questions. Make sure your applications are COMPLETE & please share as much detail as you can on those- about yourself, your family and your pets. This really helps us! We then schedule a in-person meeting/ home check where possible. For those out of state, most everything is done virtually, unless we have a volunteer in that area that conducts the home visits. Emailing: PLEASE READ 🙏🏽 We receive an overwhelming amount of messaging daily and because we are always fighting the clock for our dogs in kill shelters, we have come to determine putting applicants over all else, is the most efficient way. It also lets us know who is truly serious and willing to give their time for an application, and then worth our time for consideration. We greatly appreciate those that respect and follow our process! And again, any questions you have can be answered in those follow up calls and meetings! Rest assured, we are committed to all of our applicants to finding the most wonderful match and together, saving a life in need!
