Bean's Story
Meet Bean — Small Dog, BIG Personality!
Bean is the kind of dog who may be only about 20 pounds, but he’s convinced he’s running the whole show. This cute, quirky, bossy little guy is approximately 6 years old, and while we’re not exactly sure what breeds make up his unique recipe, we think there may be some Corgi in there!
Sadly, after 5 years in a home, Bean was surrendered to us because his bossy nature around the youngest children in the household had become a challenge. We know that surrender was a heartbreaking and confusing experience for him. His entire world was turned upside down that day.
So, we’ve given Bean something he desperately needed: time. Time to decompress. Time to adjust. Time to learn that the shelter can be a safe place. And he has done remarkably well.
Bean has been introduced to lots of volunteers and has discovered that shelter life comes with some pretty great perks — attention, walks, treats and plenty of people willing to admire him! He thoroughly enjoys his daily walks and soaking up attention from his favorite humans.
And this little guy is SMART. He is very treat motivated and already knows several basic commands, including sit, paw and down. He’s eager to learn when there’s something tasty involved!
Now, about that personality...
Bean has a bit of a Napoleon complex. Everything with this little guy tends to be on his terms. He can be aloof, particular and quite the little snob when meeting new people. But once Bean decides you’re one of his people, you get to see the softer side of this quirky little dog. He’ll lean into you for pets and let his lovable personality shine through.
In his previous home, Bean was a lap dog who loved rolling over for belly scratches and giving kisses. We’re hopeful that with the right person, that sweet side of Bean will come out again.
Because Bean likes to be the boss, he would do best in an adult-only home with no children — preferably with someone who understands small dogs with BIG opinions and knows how to set boundaries while respecting their quirks.
Cats: Bean loves to chase them, so a home without cats would be best.
Other dogs: If you have another dog in your home, a meet-and-greet will be required to make sure everyone is comfortable together.
Bean may not be the dog who instantly loves everyone he meets. He’s looking for someone who will give him the time and patience to build trust — and in return, you may just earn the loyalty, cuddles, belly rubs and kisses of one very special little man.
Think you have what it takes to be Bean’s person? Maybe you’re exactly the kind of human this bossy little snob has been waiting for.
Come meet Bean at the sanctuary this Saturday during our open hours from 10am –2 pm!
