Bea (Beatrice)'s Story

**UPDATE 1/10/23: Bea is adapting well to being on "only" pupster since her foster sister was adopted, although her energy levels would still appreciate having a friendly, active dog in her life to wrestle with and chase. She is finding her voice and likes to "announce" any and all movement seen around the house as unusual and she has opinions to share on a variety of issues. Bea's perfect forever home will have a securely-fenced large yard to run and play in and an active, energetic doggy-experienced mom and/or dad who can stay one step ahead of her. At this point, she is not yet ready to be alone a great deal, so it would be best for her new forever home to have someone at home a great deal of the time. She continues to have great interest in all things "sniffy" and we think she would be a good candidate for scentwork to keep her entertained and focused.**

Bea is an adorable Pem corgi/corgi-mix puppy approximately 8 months old sporting a lovely tail instead of the more often seen “bunny butt”. She and her sister came into rescue with an unknown background as a "breeder release". She is independent, quirky, loves her toys, and loves to play and wrestle with her foster sister. Not quite the cuddler that her foster sister is, she is still finding out that bellyrubs and ear skritches are just a few of the pleasures of being part of a family. Give Bea a securely fenced yard full of falling leaves and she is in heaven, bounding through the leaves and kicking up a storm. She would be pleased to have an area where she is allowed to dig a bit and likes to chase anything thrown although she hasn’t really figured out the part about bringing it back for another throw. When she naps, she is most comfortable in the “air the belly” pose and may or may not use a wall to stay upright.

Bea is making good progress in finding out that the world can be a happy and fun place to be a puppy. She’s fine with riding in a car and being in a crate for safety’s sake while doing it. She’s learning how to be OK with a harness (but please don’t put one on her that closes with Velcro, she hates the stuff), walking on a leash, housebreaking, going up and down stairs, sleeping and eating in a crate and more but she’s also a work in progress. Bea will need a family who has doggy experience and lots of patience to help her be the best corgi she can be. She will also need a securely fenced yard and would benefit from puppy classes to help her gain confidence. We wouldn’t be surprised if Bea might be interested in taking up scent work on down the road. We think she would love to have the company of another playful dog. She has met a few cats and was curious but we don’t know how she might do with them as housemates.

Bea is spayed, microchipped, has all her vaccinations and is on heartworm/flea/parasite preventative.
