Your Tiny Shadow with a BIG Heart! <br/><br/>At just one year old and 18 pounds, Baxter is the perfect little companion for someone looking for a whole lot of love in a small package!<br/><br/>Baxter came to us as a rescue transfer due to overcrowding at his previous rescue, and he's ready to find the forever home he's been waiting for. This sweet boy is incredibly affectionate and happiest when he's wherever you are. Need a little company? Baxter is your guy! He's the kind of dog who wants to be part of your day, whether you're relaxing on the couch, moving around the house, or just enjoying some quiet time together. <br/><br/>Here's what we love about Baxter:<br/><br/> A little lover: Baxter is super affectionate and loves being close to his people. He's a wonderful little companion who wants to be included in whatever you're doing.<br/><br/> Easygoing and friendly: Baxter does well with the people he meets and has been a very sweet, uncomplicated little guy in his foster home. He's also a quiet boy who isn't a typical yappy Chihuahua!<br/><br/> Kennel pro: Baxter does great in his kennel, making him an easy addition to a home that appreciates a little routine.<br/><br/> Timid, submissive, and oh-so-sweet: Baxter is a gentle, timid little soul. When he's unsure of something, especially another animal getting right in his face or invading his personal space, his response is to be submissive and retreat rather than react. He has shown no aggression in his foster home. He's not a growler or a barker; he's simply a little guy who needs time and space to feel safe and comfortable. Since settling into his foster home, he's been going out with the other dogs without issue! He may just need respectful introductions and a little time to warm up to new furry friends.<br/><br/>Interestingly, his previous shelter noted some concerns with barriers, such as kennel doors, but we've seen none of those behaviors in his foster home. Sometimes, a calmer home environment makes all the difference!<br/><br/> His ideal home: We think Baxter would do best in a home where people understand that even little dogs need personal space. Because he's a small, timid guy, we'd love to see him with older, dog-savvy children, perhaps ages 7–10 and up, who understand how to approach, handle, and respect a small dog. He's friendly with people, but being unexpectedly grabbed or picked up could understandably startle him. We want his new family to help him feel secure, not overwhelmed.<br/><br/>Baxter isn't asking for much. Just a loving family, a cozy place to call home, and someone who appreciates having a sweet little shadow following them around.
