Baxter's Story

The biographical information provided is correct to the best of our knowledge while the animal is in our care or includes what may have been provided by a previous owner. We strive to be honest and accurate, but animals can change their personalities and behavior when they settle into a new home. IDR+ makes no guarantees based on the information we observe and provide.

Are you looking for a power-packed pint-sized pup? Do you like a dog who wants to snuggle, but still has a mind of his own? How about a dog with the face of a French Mastiff and the body of a Dachshund? That’s right; what we have here is a genuine Glizzy-mix. We know he’s got to be part hot-dog, but we can’t tell you and wouldn’t try to guess what the other parts are.
What we can tell you is that Baxter is an adorable, unique, lovable and stubborn 1 year old little tank. He has those wide, powerful Doxie paws and legs and an adorable smooshy face with a comical underbite. He is very unique in both looks and personality.
Baxter is currently living in one of our foster homes, where he happily plays with toys, guards the house from squirrels, and when he’s not bossing his foster mom around, he settles in for TV and snuggles on the couch. Baxter is a really smart pup, but as we mentioned, he is stubborn and could use some structure and training. He is working on his potty training, but this cold winter has made it a challenge. He would be best partnered with an owner who is willing to spend some time training, walking. and establishing boundaries with him. He’s a good boy with a lovable personality, getting all wiggly and excited anytime he meets new people, but he gets a little too excited when he sees little critters or other pups.
We aren’t sure if Baxter can live with other dogs, as we have only had him around a couple, and he gets pretty overstimulated, but given time, he may be able to have a canine sibling. He has a sweet personality and does learn quickly, so it may just take an owner who is willing to give him proper, slow and structured introduction. At this point we do not think Baxter would do well living with cats, as he got pretty worked up when he saw his foster mom’s resident house cat.
If you are looking for a young ball of clay, who just needs to be molded into a tough-looking little sculpture, then Baxter may be the power-pup for you!
