Baxter's Story

Baxter is a one-year-old male 60 lb. boxer mix with medium energy. He enjoys walks and does so respectfully and rarely pulls. Baxter is a very social dog who enjoys being close to his people, other dogs and cats. The much older dogs and cat that he lives with are not as eager to play with him, but he is making all the appropriate moves to engage them. He has even taken to lying down with his 14 year old foster sister on her bed–while she is not thrilled she is tolerating his need for companionship. Thinking he’d have better luck finding a friend in the cat, he’d follow him around and sniff. Alas, Mr. Cat has neither been interested in getting to know Baxter better and did cuff poor Baxter in the jowl. Baxter simply wants to love and be loved by all. Baxter is underweight and has tried to eat from the trash can when he is unattended, but once he is used to getting regular meals and has more training, this should not be an issue. Baxter is crate trained, as he is still very much a puppy. He still needs to be supervised when out of the crate. Puppy-proofing your home would be a good idea while he learns a little more about being a good housemate. He is 90% housebroken, is able to wait all night long and while in the crate, his foster mom just has not yet learned what his “tell” is for needing to go out. Baxter barks once or twice to alert his people that he sees “someone” however, he responds well when told to quiet down. Baxter has not met children yet. He has no food aggression. Baxter has recovered from kennel cough and pneumonia. He has been neutered and undergone bilateral surgical correction for cherry eye. Baxter is an ultra-sweet wiggle-butt. He works very hard to get his foster mom’s senior girls to play with him, and no matter how often he is rebuffed, he optimistically tries again the next day. He is extremely amenable to training with a soft firm voice. He is eager to please, looking repeatedly to his person for guidance. He loves being in the country and exploring the open spaces, sights, sounds and smells. He will unabashedly steel your seat when you get up, and even enjoys a slow spin after being caught in his person’s office chair. What Baxter may yet lack in experience, poise and training, he more than makes up for in curiosity, personality, humor, optimism, and affection. Baxter is neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped as well as having had his eyes corrected which you can see in his third picture.
