Barney's Story

If Barney could talk he would have endless stories to tell about how unfair life is for some animals. Barney came to us as a surrender from a backyard breeder when a concerned citizen contacted the Winnipeg Boxer Rescue about a sad sick looking dog being kept in unacceptable conditions. They were able to convinced the owners to surrender him into our care which was the best thing that could have been done for this sweet guy.

Barney came in need double entropion surgery, had frostbite on his testicles, and was quite underweight. We were able to get him is entripion and neuter surgery right away which helped with two of his health problems. Unfortunately Barney has been extremely stressed in the shelter environment and damaged some of his sutures around his eyes by destroying all of his cones and slamming/rubbing his head on the walls of his kennel. We now have to wait for them to heal a bit more before we can tell if he will need to have them re sutured.

Barney is quite the character and will be quite the project dog for whoever adopts him. Due to his up bringing he unfortunately never received any training. He has been making small improvements here at the shelter which has been so exciting to see.He does travel in vehicle very well though. One thing that must be in Barney's new home is lots and lots of balls! Balls are Barney's one and only favorite thing to play with ( Bonus points if they bounce). He does enjoy a good game of tug but show him a ball and he'll drop everything.
