Barnaby 's Story

Because he was a stray, he's still learning what he can and can't do inside the house.
Such as counter surfing.

He's very affectionate, friendly (nervous of strangers at first but warms up super fast). Playful, fun loving, and agile!!

His house training is coming along but because he's at a shelter, he will need someone to teach him. He still needs to learn how to walk on leash without tripping his human. He'll need his person to teach him all the basic commands.

He can jump real high and get onto counters, climb 6 foot chain link fences and literally scale a 5.5 foot solid wooden gate. So keeping a close eye on him is important, correcting him and redirecting him, plus never leaving him unattended in a yard or with open decks and patios..

He wants to be with his people all the time, and has a bit of separation anxiety when he's left alone, he should be crated when you go out. Again, in time, he will learn that he isn't going to be abandoned, and that his humans will always return.

Barnaby is very nervous of new people. It's all fear based. He barks at strangers and cowers as if he is going be be hit or kicked. It takes him quite a bit of time to trust a complete stranger who comes into his space.

Barnaby is extremely dog reactive, and we think because he had to fend for himself on the streets as a stray, he is fear aggressive. We are working on this, with dogs that are non reactive. But he needs someone who will take the time to socialize him in 100% controlled situations with dogs that are gentle and calm.
No off leash parks for Barnaby please.

He tends to be a bit food possessive with other dogs, but feeding separately solves this issue.

Barnaby should not live in apartment buildings where he may encounter strangers and other dogs in elevators.

He is ready for a foster, foster to adopt or forever home!

His adoption fee is by donation to the right home, that will provide training, socialization, all in controlled setting. We will only entertain those who know how to work with dogs with Barnaby's issues.

He is neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, flea treated.

An adoption application and home visit is required. No exceptions.

If you're interested in Barnaby, please copy and paste the following link into your web browser and send in the adoption-application

www.lowermainlandhumanesociety.org/adoption-application/
