Barley's Story

Barley arrived at Orange County Animal Care as a stray, and when no one came to claim him, we welcomed him as Frosted Face. Barley looks like he was pieced together from the cutest parts bin - the expressive face of a Basenji and the tiny, compact body of a Chihuahua. The result? One ridiculously adorable little 10 pound pup!

We don't know what Barley's life was like before he became a stray, but we have learned that he does best with a gentle approach. His vision isn't the best, but his hearing works great, so he asks that you go slow and say hello first, so he isn't startled. Then he happily leans in for pets and soaks up the affection. Check out his videos and see for yourself - the proof is in those tail wags and nuzzles!

Barley enjoys going on outings with our volunteers. He rides nicely in the care, is well-behaved in stores (Kahoots is his favorite spot to browse and get free treats!) He also enjoys going to Starbucks for a pup cup.

Thanks to Barley spending time in two loving foster homes, we've gotten to know a lot about him. Here's what we've learned about this special senior:

* He knows his name and responds when you call him.
* In new environments, Barley takes his time exploring, carefully mapping out his surroundings.
* He enjoys slow, short walks and especially loves cruising in a stroller. A safe yard to wander and sniff is also right up his alley.
* Blankets are his favorite! He loves burrowing, rolling, and gently nibbling as he builds the coziest little nest.
* Barley enjoys being near his people and is content relaxing in a comfy dog bed close by.
* Once he feels safe and comfortable, he melts for belly rubs.
* Sunny spots are bliss - he could soak up warm rays all day!
* He is crate-trained and settles nicely when left home alone.
* At bedtime, Barley sleeps soundly through the night.

Barley dreams of a patient, loving home that will give him the time he needs to settle in and feel safe. In return for your understanding, he promises to be a loyal little companion by your side for all the years he has ahead.

To meet Barley, please email placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org
