Barkley (VA)'s Story

Meet Barkley, a 3.5 year-old rat terrier/chihuahua mix weighing in at a perfect 12 lbs. He was found as a stray in Georgia and taken to the shelter. When no one came looking for him, New Rattitude flew him to Virginia where he is currently fostered.

Barkley can be a little shy at first and needs some time to warm up, especially around men, but once he feels safe, his true personality shines through. He’s the perfect mix of incredibly sweet, cuddly, playful, and delightfully silly.

Barkley loves going on walks, playing with toys, burrowing under the covers, and following his people from room to room like a tiny shadow. He’s great with other dogs and would do well either with canine siblings or as an only dog soaking up all the attention. He also enjoys trips to the dog park. Barkley sleeps well through the night in his crate (although he would love to snuggle up next to his people), and does his business outside.

At this time, Barkley has not been tested with cats (though he does appear to have a bit of a prey drive) or with children. He loves to wander and explore and go on 'sniffaris", so he would do best with a securely fenced yard or frequent leashed walks.

Barkley would thrive with a family willing to help him continue building confidence and trust in what can sometimes feel like a scary world. With patience, consistency, and lots of love, Barkley becomes a loyal, affectionate little best friend who will happily curl up beside you and steal your heart.

For more photos of this handsome friend, see
http://www.imageevent.com/newrattitude/barkley
