What do you think? <br/>Meet Barkley <br/><br/>Barkley is a handsome male Chow Chow, estimated to be about 8 years old, whose story is heartbreaking. <br/><br/>For 8 years, Barkley had a person to call his own. He knew her voice, her smell, her home, her routines, and most importantly, he knew he was loved. She was his whole world. But as her health declined, she eventually entered hospice care and could no longer care for him.<br/><br/>Barkley had no idea why his person suddenly disappeared. He went from having a home and the person he adored to sitting alone in a shelter, surrounded by unfamiliar people and wondering where she was and why she wasn’t coming back. After a decade with the person he loved, everything he knew was suddenly gone.<br/><br/>Through absolutely no fault of his own, this sweet boy lost his home and the person who had been his entire world. <br/><br/>Despite everything, Barkley has remained an incredibly loving boy. He absolutely loves and adores his person and wants nothing more than to be close to them. He is a wonderful companion and can happily spend part of his day lounging around like a couch potato.<br/><br/>But don’t let his age fool you—Barkley does not act like a senior! If we didn’t know his age, we would honestly guess he was younger. He is incredibly playful with his toys, loves to play and run, and gets around remarkably well. He has no mobility issues and moves beautifully. He can go from couch potato to playful youngster in no time! <br/><br/>Barkley also loves going for walks and walks well on a leash. However, if he sees something interesting, he will want to investigate. Don’t assume he has no power behind that pull—when Barkley wants to check something out, he can definitely pull with strength! With that in mind, his person should be prepared to stay attentive and maintain a secure hold on the leash during walks.<br/><br/>Barkley does wonderfully meeting people and has accepted both men and women equally. He is also exceptionally easy at the vet and is easy to handle for grooming and veterinary care. He does not require a muzzle, which is an especially wonderful quality in a Chow.<br/><br/>Barkley does tend to bark, especially when he is unsure or trying to communicate. However, once he becomes comfortable with you, he responds well to positive correction and settles in beautifully. He is not snippy or aggressive—he simply has a voice and isn’t afraid to use it! <br/><br/>Barkley is neutered, house trained, heartworm negative, and up to date on vaccinations.<br/><br/>What Barkley needs now is simple: a person who will love him as much as he will love them. Someone who understands that bringing a dog into their family is a commitment—not something to walk away from when life gets inconvenient.<br/><br/>Barkley has already lost his person, his home, and everything familiar to him once.<br/><br/>He should never have to wonder if he is going to be abandoned again.<br/><br/>His next person needs to be his forever person. His next home needs to be his forever home.
