URGENT FOSTER OR ADOPTER NEEDED: Meet Barkley<br/><br/>Barkley has already survived the shelter once. Last fall, he was #2 on a shelter kill list, and he barely made it out in time. Now, this sweet boy is facing the heartbreaking possibility of ending up back in the shelter if he does not find a foster or adopter by the end of July.<br/><br/>We are incredibly worried for Barkley. He deserves so much more than to lose the safety he fought so hard to find.<br/><br/>Barkley was adopted with the hope that he could stay permanently or find the right forever home. Unfortunately, because Barkley is not cat-friendly and his adopter is involved in cat rescue, they cannot safely keep him. He has been in a foster home for several months, but that foster placement is ending soon.<br/><br/>Despite everything, Barkley is truly such a good boy. He is a handsome shepherd mix, about 35-40 pounds and knee-height. He is people-friendly, extremely sweet, well-behaved, and fully house-trained. He loves long walks, playing in the snow, and enjoying his favorite rawhide-alternative chew treats. He has never tried to get food out of the garbage or off the counter, and he has so much love to give.<br/><br/>Barkleys biggest challenge is that he has a strong chase instinct with squirrels and small animals. He will need a patient adopter who can help redirect that behavior, and time with a trainer would be helpful. Because he is not cat-friendly, Barkley needs a home with no cats or small animals. He has been friendly with most dogs he meets on walks, but slow and thoughtful dog introductions would be best.<br/><br/>Barkley lives in NYC and is available to meet. The Cat Collective is helping share his story because we believe he deserves a real chance at the safe, loving future he almost lost once before.<br/><br/>Barkley should not have to go back to the shelter. He survived once, but he may not make it out again. His hero is out there somewhere — and we are hoping they find him in time.
