Banjo's Story

Hi, my name is Banjo! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: Intelligent, athletic
-Can Live with Kids: We are recommending an adult-only home for Banjo at this time due to some handling sensitivities.
-Can Live with Cats: Unknown history with cats. Slow and supervised introductions required if attempting to introduce to a feline friend.
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, Banjo does well with dogs of similar size and energy levels and would likely enjoy/benefit from having a canine companion.
-Can do Apartment Living: No thanks, he is easily overwhelmed by noise and commotion and would likely not do well in an apartment setting.
-Potty Trained: Seems to be.
-Bite History: No
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: One private lesson may be required depending on adopter's experience.
-Energy Level: High
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: Yes a neuter
-Additional Information: Banjo was found out in the county as a stray running around with another dog. It took a few people to wrangle them into safety but they have been settling in and enjoying their time getting snacks and affection here at the shelter. Banjo is looking for an adopter who has plenty of prior experience with owning dogs. He will need plenty of time to adjust to a new home and would benefit from having a stable and predictable routine to help build his confidence. Gentle affection and a treat go a long ways with Banjo. He would likely enjoy doing food puzzles and scent work for mental stimulation. Banjo is excited to find his forever family!
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
