Banjo's Story

Banjo: Blue Eyes, Big Heart, Cat-Approved
Banjo is a striking blue-eyed athlete with a soft, affectionate soul. A longtime volunteer favorite, he’s more than ready for a home of his own.

He lives for fetch and will happily bring the ball right back every time. Banjo is an energetic, joyful player and can get a little excited during returns, but he does great with a two-ball game and is already learning calmer handoffs. The best part? When the game ends, he settles right down and relaxes at your feet. He just needs a home that enjoys an active dog and is willing to keep guiding all that happy energy in the right direction. Because of his big play style, he’d likely do best with older kids or adults.

He’s confident on leash and greets people happily. When first coming out of his kennel, he may be a little excited, but he settles quickly once he’s moving. He takes treats gently and is very responsive to guidance. Outside, he’s all athlete. Inside, he melts. He settles at your feet with a chew toy and leans into you for closeness. "The lean" is his signature move. Banjo is also a runner’s delight, earning a 10/10 from our running volunteer for being focused and steady on the path. On a recent day out, he was a perfect gentleman in a home and appears house trained. He happily rode along to middle school pickup, soaked up all the affection and rested his head on his volunteer’s arm on the drive back to the shelter. He truly loves people.

He can be dog selective and generally prefers female canine friends, so if you have a pup at home, we recommend a meet-and-greet. He was also recently cat tested and approved. Banjo has been waiting since July, when he was transferred here after the Texas floods to make room for displaced animals. He's spent far too long waiting for a home and is ready to trade the kennel walls for a home of his own.
