Bandit's Story

Bandit joined Mattie's Place via his veterinarian advocating for him when his owner was prepared to euthanize, due to surgical costs.

Bandit was hit by a car and broke his elbow. He was admitted to our emergency clinic and had his elbow repaired. His final invoice was: $7,493.66

Bandit is healing beautifully and the surgery was a success. He has a couple more rechecks at TVEH on Rolark post-op, but he's ready to find his for-always home.

Bandit is a young boy, born 1/20/2025. He spent his life free roaming on a farm in Ontario. He lived with other dogs and young kids and did amazing.

In foster care he's with a small dog and is gentle and kind. Though not cat tested, I think he's be fine with cats. He's just a good boy.

Bandit weighs in at 31 kgs / 70 pounds.

He has now been neutered and once he is a little more recovered from surgery, we'll get him up to date on vaccines. He's started his parasite prevention and has been dewormed.

Bandit does have some separation anxiety, which I think he will grow out of as he settles into a home and grows his confidence. He just wants to be touching his foster family at all times and will follow you room to room. So he will need an adopter that is home most often, at least for the interim.

Bandit is still very puppy minded and never received any sort of professional training, so he can be mouthy when over-stimulated and likes to greet people by jumping up. He will need an adopter committed to professional training so Bandit can move past some of these unwanted behaviours and be the best Golden we know he can be.

Bandit has some good energy, even though he is on pain medication which causes sedation, so a home with a backyard and an active adopter that likes to get out and adventure with their dogs will be my choice for Bandit. A couch potato lifestyle will not fill his soul. This boy wants to get out and enjoy all the world has to offer him.

Bandit travels well in the car, so no issue taking him on a road trip for your next adventure!

If you're looking for a great, young dog as your next bestie, Bandit is worth considering.

FROM THE FOSTER;

Bandit is a happy boy, excited to meet people and enjoy new experiences.

Although he is recovering from elbow surgery, he's very interested in his surroundings, curious about all the new smells and really enjoys his short walks.

He is strong and stubborn, and will try get away with what he wants to do even when he shouldn't, requiring supervision, consistent rules and boundaries.

He can be easily startled with loud noises and when cars drive by fast, looking for reassurance that he is safe. Presumably trauma from his accident.

Bandit is happiest when his humans are close to him. You will often find him sleeping on our feet, rolled onto his back and stretched out snoring. He is quite the Velcro dog, and can get very anxious when he can't see his human companion.

He is house trained. We've been practicing crate time to get him familiar with being crated, and leaving him crated for short periods of time with good success.

He is on restricted activity post-surgery (not allowed to jump, run, or play excessively; on leash when outside including bathroom) which can be challenging as he is a bundle of energy with boundary-testing behaviour and selective hearing unless you have a treat! Thankfully he is super food motivated and with more training, he will learn how to be a well-mannered boy.

Bandit is currently eating 5 cups of food split between breakfast (2c), lunch (1c) and dinner (2c). We've been slowly increasing his walks post-surgery as he heals, getting out for a short walk when he wakes up, mid-day, late afternoon and before bed, along with regular bathroom breaks throughout the day. He is still on post-surgery meds which make him drowsy and help keep him calm, so this may adjust his schedule as he finishes the meds and activity increases.

Bandit is in the peak of adolescence and a work in progress - affectionate, smart, and curious but also energetic and occasionally mouthy.

Bandit is a sweet boy and his desire for companionship will make him a beloved addition to an active family.

----------------------------------------

$875 ADOPTION FEE INCLUDES: spay/neuter, deworming, flea/tick prevention, vaccinations, dentals if needed or any added surgical needed surgical care, food, nose to tail health exam, toys, leash|collar, winter coat (seasonal), poop bags, dishes and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance with immediate coverage on adoption day for any illness or injury not pre-existing.

----------------------------------------

To note: the above description is relevant to this dog in it's current & previous setting. Home changes & adopter personalities can bring out different behaviours not previously seen.
