Bailey’s FAQs

What is Hancock County Animal Shelter’s adoption process?

ADOPTING AN ANIMAL Adopting a shelter animal is one of the most rewarding things you can do.  The dog or cat will pay you back  with unlimited unconditional love and will provide many hours of devoted companionship. Studies also prove that owning an animal has many health benefits such as soothing stress and lowering blood pressure. Just keep in mind that taking an animal into your home is a commitment for the lifetime of that animal.  A dog can live up to 16 years or more; a cat even longer. You will need to think about that animal's veterinary care, feeding, exercise, and general well being.  To adopt from our shelter, you must fill out an application with references and veterinarian.  In some instances, you may be asked to fill out a pre-adoption form.  Upon approval, you may adopt. We do not hold animals.  Adoptions are on a first come basis. We reserve the right to refuse.
