Bagel's Story

Meet Bagel

Vibe Check:
Retired from Ridglan Farms, wanting to forget what she has endured. Ready for the good life.

Fun Fact:
Bagel thinks she is a cat. She loves cat toys for some reason

Rescue: Albert's Dog Lounge
Age: Adult
Size: Medium
Fostered in: Whitewater, Wisconsin

Bagel's Origin Story:
Like all the beagles released from Ridglan Farm, Bagel has not had a life full of family, love, and socialization. She will need patience and understanding to make up for lost time.

Health Notes:
Bagel is spayed and is fully up to date on her vetting. She is currently eating a raw diet, and it is recommended that an adopter continue with this to ensure that her tummy remains stable. Many of the beagles that came out of RF had significant digestive issues for a while, and the raw diet seems to have stabilized that. The Ridglan beagles have been found to be prone to vaccine reactions. She will need to receive Benadryl 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccines to prevent this going forward.

Personality:
Bagel is trying so hard to learn to be brave. She has overcome a lot of trauma in his five weeks of freedom. She will need help learning how to leash walk, as she panics when the leash comes out. She doesn't understand what is happening, though it is improving. She is trying hard, but the world is still a big, scary place, and she will need a family who is willing to go at her pace and help her acclimate.

While she is still people-shy, she does warm up to you at her own pace. She has met neighbor children and does ok with them, but any children would need to be respectful of her fear. She is currently living with a pair of Australian Shepherds and is indifferent to them, though she will follow their lead. She loves the family cats and we are pretty sure she thinks she is one.

Family Matters:
Bagel would benefit from a confident dog sibling who will be able to guide her in the ways of being a dog. She would love a kitty sibling also.

She struggles with you being gone, and will sing her beagle song and cry while pacing. She has gotten much better about this and only does it for 10-15 minutes before she settles, but she is likely not a great match for someone with shared walls.

Things Bagel Loves

Cat toys
Affection, but on her terms (she will approach when she wants it)
Sniffy yard patrols
Bones to chew on
Warm weather
Life outside a cage

Signature Move:
Spinning in a circle excitedly when she sees you, then nibbling your fingers in happiness.

Bucket List:
Learning how to be a pet
Her own fluffy bed
A dish that will always have enough healthy food to fill her belly
Learning not to fear outside
Space to sniff with that beagle nose
A patient, loving family with soft hands and lots of love to offer

A Few House Rules:
Because these dogs have been through so much, it is our job as those entrusted with their care to be very thoughtful in their placement. Here are our requirements.

Fenced yard required
No apartments
Another confident dog in the home required
No small children in the household
Strong veterinary history with current pets up to date on vaccines, heartworm testing/prevention, and current pets spayed/neutered
Preference given to adopters with beagle or hound experience
Minimal hours home alone preferred
Live within 5 hours of our headquarters in Whitewater, WI

Neutered
Microchipped
Housebreaking is a work in progress, though she is improving! She wears diapers because even though she understands "outside", it has been a scary place for her.
Working on leash walking, but it will likely be a work in progress for a while.
PLEASE do not crate, does spectacularly free roaming the house
UTD on vaccinations
UTD on preventatives

Albert's Dog Lounge is a specialty rescue focusing primarily on senior and special needs dogs.

Our process includes an approved application, reference checks, a homevisit, and then a meet and greet with the dog.
