She loves exploring with her nose, carrying around her favorite plush squeaky toys, and getting out to experience the world around her.<br/><br/>But Sasha is not a dog who is going to immediately trust everyone she meets—and that's important for her future adopter to understand.<br/><br/>She studies people.<br/><br/>She watches how you move, how you approach her, and what you do when you're around her. She can be cautious with unfamiliar people, and the way you introduce yourself to her matters. A movement that may seem completely harmless to one person can make Sasha uncomfortable.<br/><br/>When she's uncomfortable, she communicates. She may growl, bark, stiffen, or otherwise let you know that she needs more space.<br/><br/>Those warnings are important and need to be respected.<br/><br/>Sasha is not looking for a confrontation, but she will defend herself if she feels that her boundaries are being ignored. Someone who doesn't understand canine body language or tries to push the relationship too quickly may unintentionally put Sasha in a situation where she feels she needs to protect herself.<br/><br/>That doesn't make Sasha a bad dog.<br/><br/>It means she needs someone who is willing to listen to what she's saying.<br/><br/>For the people Sasha truly trusts, you get to see a much different side of her. She likes to play, explore, carry her toys around, and show off her goofy personality. She can form an incredibly strong bond with the people she trusts—but she may always prefer having some personal space rather than being constantly handled or cuddled.<br/><br/>And that's okay.<br/><br/>Maybe, with enough time and trust, Sasha will become the cuddle buddy you've always wanted. Maybe she'll eventually follow you around the house and become your shadow. But her adopter shouldn't bring her home expecting that to happen immediately—or expecting her to become a completely different dog.<br/><br/>The goal isn't to change Sasha into the dog you want. The goal is to understand Sasha for who she is and give her the opportunity to become the best version of herself.<br/><br/>Because trust is the foundation of everything with this girl.<br/><br/>Sasha would do best with an experienced, patient owner who is comfortable reading dog body language, respecting boundaries, and allowing a relationship to develop naturally. A quiet, single-person home with no children and limited visitors would still be ideal for her.<br/><br/>ADOPTION SUPPORT FOR SASHA<br/><br/>Because finding the right home for Sasha is so important, we want to provide her future adopter with some additional support.<br/><br/>Codie McNeil, owner of Direct Connect Dog Training, is offering TWO FREE one-hour training sessions to Sasha's adopter.<br/><br/>These sessions will focus on understanding Sasha's body language, learning how to interact with her appropriately, building trust, and giving her new owner the tools they need to set her up for success.<br/><br/>This isn't about teaching Sasha to simply tolerate people.<br/><br/>It's about teaching her new person how to communicate with her.<br/><br/>We want Sasha's future adopter to have the knowledge and support necessary to build a safe and successful relationship with her from the beginning.<br/><br/>Baby Sasha doesn't need someone who sees a cute picture and falls in love with the idea of who she could be.<br/><br/>She needs someone who sees Sasha for who she actually is—and wants to earn her trust.<br/><br/>If you're experienced, patient, willing to listen, and understand that some relationships take time to build, Sasha may be the dog you've been waiting for.<br/><br/>She doesn't need everyone.<br/><br/>She needs her person.<br/><br/>Adopting from the SPCA of the Triad means giving your new companion a healthy and happy start!
